Traffic Strategy for College Counseling Website

Hi Everyone,

I've been reading all around this forum for months, a few friends and I started a niche fitness website and have slowly been building our list and generating some decent traffic. So first off, I'd like to thank you for all the valuable information you have assembled here.

Here's my current dilemma:

In an effort to generate some quick cash in the short term, I've setup a very basic personal website highlighting my college admission counseling services. I have various tier's of services that range of single essay editing to weekly sessions between now and January. I'm trying to keep the site simple, my credentials speak for themselves, and I'm not worried about the site's ability to convert well.

What I don't have is a way to generate targeted traffic. I've considered using adwords (would prefer not to spend the money if possible). I don't want to leverage my social media connections because, quite frankly I feel bad asking my friends for money in return for some essay proofreading. I've also considered some type of offline flyering campaign around my campus since so many prospective students come to tour it each day.

So can you all think of any other ways that I can drive targeted traffic to my site? (In this case, parents of high school seniors that would be interested in college counseling services.)

If you are considering ads maybe Facebook. They have demographic.ad targeting and with a FB page can bring fast traffic.

    1) Flyer the hell out of the campus, but know that you're going to suffer until things really fire back up in September.

    2) Facebook Ads - they're cheap and you can target the appropriate age groups quite easily. If you have to, just buy some of those $50 FB account codes for cheap and burn through a few of them until you get some clients.

    3) Approach local high schools and talk to the counselors there. Offer that you're an expert in this field that would be happy to help coach parents and students along.

    4) Paper-flyers on residential streets with those little tear-off tags on them. Easy.

    5) Pound the pavement door-to-door if necessary.

    Good luck!

    Have you tried student forums?

    College Admissions - College Confidential
Try posting your AD there. Those are high school kid preparing for college application. That is already your niche!

Try creating you separate Facebook page only for this service you offer. And try joining in forums to promote your own website

You should always start with your Sphere of influence first. It's the first step in the networking process.

If you feel bad asking them directly, then you can suggest if they know anyone that would like my services. Ask them for referrals..

    • Where do parents of high school seniors gather?

      At student events.

Put flyers on windshields, put a giant sign on your vehicle and park it where it can't be missed, even stand just off the school property and hand out freebies with your message and URL.

You will have to spend *some* money, but then it takes money to make money.
