Check Your Keyword Stats Often

This is something you may or may not think about but it's something you must
do regularly if you do any kind of advertising that has to do with keyword
selection, especially if you use articles like I do.

Let's say you're writing articles for home repair and you find a few keywords
that are getting about 10,000 searches a month in July. So you write some
articles on home repair using these keywords expecting a certain amount of
traffic.

Now, let's suppose that when the winter months come people aren't as
interested in home repair because it's too cold. If you were to research
these same keywords then, you'd find that they only got about 1,000
searches a month. You therefore wouldn't bother spending as much time
during those months pumping out articles because people just aren't as
interested. It would not be an efficient use of your time.

Also, some keywords may die altogether because of changing technology
or world conditions.

Point is, just because a set of keywords brought you X amount of traffic
3 months ago, doesn't mean those keywords will perform as well today.

I would check your keyword stats at least once every month. Naturally,
if you're in hundreds of niches this can be difficult to do, so outsource it.
Have somebody check the stats for you. Give them the keyword tool you
use and put them to work.

If you don't keep up with how keyword performance changes there is no
way for you to know if the niche you're attacking, with the keywords
you're using, is going to perform the way you expect in the long run.

You're right Waggerz... and more importantly...

Checking keyword stats in your back office daily can bring up new keywords that you didn't use already...

I get a keyword stats report delivered daily by my guy and it always has interesting stuff for me to muse over during lunch..

    Peace

Spot on, Mr. Wag, spot on. Even subjects you might not suspect have seasonal variations in search patterns just might. And sometimes it's counter-intuitive, as well. I had a site about a topic where the big selling season was Spring and early Summer. Lo and behold (did I really just type 'Lo and behold'? LOL), the traffic really started ramping up in January. The reason I deduced is that women like to plan well ahead for the events that related to this topic. So you gotta check those keyword stats rigorously to pry out the actual patterns.

    Excellent advice from the Wagster!

    Very true.

If you use they Google keyword tool, there an option that shows a little trand graph thingy for the last 12 months. It doesn't give numbers but definately makes it obvious which keywords are a seasonal affair (or which have come from nothing... or, indeed, are about to go back to nothing ).
