Could someone explain what the amazon cookie means, I have heard that there is a 24 hour cookie or a 90 day one but little unsure.

A "cookie" is a bit of computer code that a site plants in the browser of someone who clicks on something. The Amazon checkout page will look for the cookie and insert your affiliate ID for paying your commission. Also, if the visitor leaves the sales/payment page without a purchase but returns later, Amazon will still check for a cookie, and see how old it is. Its age determines whether you'll still be paid on that visitor's Amazon purchases.

In this case, it's 1 day, because Amazon cookies are 24 hour ones (unless goods actually go into someone's "cart"/"basket", and are bought later, which is where the longer cookie comes in).

It means that after clicking on your affiliate link, anything that the customer buys through that same browser on his computer, from that same Amazon company (i.e. amazon.com/amazon.co.uk/amazon.ca etc. are not interchangeable - they're different companies), within the next 24 hours, will earn you a commission.

And yes, they also have a 90 day cookie. This one only applies if your visitor actually puts the item in their cart.

Amazon provides a form for it. You have to plug in the product number and your ID. I'll see if I can find it and post a link for you. I use it on my sites.

Here you go. It's all in the fine print!
      7. Advertising Fees

We will pay you advertising fees on Qualifying Purchases in accordance with Section 8 and Subject to the exclusions set forth below, a “Qualifying Purchase” occurs when (a) a customer clicks through a Special Link on your site to the Amazon Site; (b) during a single Session that customer either (i) adds a Product to his or her shopping cart and places the order for that Product no later than 89 days following the customer’s initial click-through, (ii) purchases a Product via our 1-Click feature, or (iii) streams or downloads a Product from the Amazon Site if the Product is a Digital Product; and (c) the Product is shipped to or streamed or downloaded by, and paid for by, the customer.

And here is the link to the add to cart form.

I have seen a premium plugin was sold in WSO which will convert the amazon cookies up to 90 days.

This doesn't seem right. Fiddling with Amazon's cookie seems like you're asking for trouble.

It is developed to provide an onsite shopping cart. once any body clicks on a product from your amazon affiliate site that redirects to your onsite shopping cart, which extends your cookies up to 90 days. Within 90 days if the same customer buy some product from your site then you will get commission.

Now may I know whether the procedure is right or wrong?

          Thanks

            Chandan:

If they are using Amazon's Add to Cart feature then technically I can see how the cookie will get extended. But, this means that whatever the visitor clicks on b/c they want to see it on Amazon will be in their cart, yes?

If that's true, I would be ticked off and complain to Amazon asking them how the heck did that product get in my cart when I didn't even put it in my cart?

Does NOT sound ethical, nor would Amazon let this go on if they find out. I would not us it.... but that's just me.

I wouldn't even touch that with a 10 foot pole....You are asking for trouble! Amazon takes a very aggressive stance against those who try to manipulate their cookies.

Yeah, if a visitor to you're amazon site clicks through to amazon via your affiliate link and buys something within 24hrs you will get the commission. Any longer than 24hrs and you get nothing.

Not sure about the 90 day cookie. I think it has something to do with the amazon shopping cart if you choose to use it on your site.

Quick question on this. Someone goes into your site then they click through, but don't buy anything on amazon. Then 2 hours later they are at a different site and click through to amazon. Who gets the commission? Is it 24 hours or the last person's site they clicked through from?
