What am I doing wrong with this website?

Hi guys I created a site called adamsonlinesecrets.com that shares information on making money online e.g SEO, ways to get traffic etc...

This month so far I have a total of 321 unique visitors, yesterday I had 118 visitors, 50 so far today.

So far I've made absolutely no money at all and just can't understand what I'm doing wrong. (Except for $4.61 with AdSense.)

All the content is 100% unique and each article is over 500 words, some of them 1000. I'm trying to make money with my site by using Clickbank and AdSense.

All help will be greatly appreciated!

Hi Adam, what is your bounce rate like?

I only ask, because when I clicked your link, I saw the first bit and immediately wanted to click away - it was simply not inviting enough.

There are so many superb WP templates out there, many for free or premiums for under $10, that you really should look to get one.

Your content looks decent, I think you just need to present it a little better - everything looks a bit mish mashed to me.

My immediate reaction was that your site is designed to offer products for sale rather than to provide quality information to the reader. I would remove the large image that appears just below your nav bar because it immediately screams advertisement. I would remove all 4 of the images appearing on the left side of your page because they take up valuable space that should be used for content.

The ads and social buttons on the right side of your page are very busy in that they are not clearly separated. I would add a logo or a professional-looking header to replace the simple font you are using.

Consider adding a video to your page in order to get a visitor to stay longer. Regarding your footer, it is missing the items Google looks for, i.e. Sitemap, Terms of Use, DMCA Notice, Privacy Policy, Anti-Spam Policy, and About Us.

Thanks, I'm going to try fix all these problems. For the sidebar you said the images are taking up space for content, what content should I put there?

I couldn't agree more. Presentation is everything and you only get one chance to make a "first impression".. which also is the last impression?>

First of all the site doesn't look amazingly professional, but that can be tidied up.
People don't just come to blogs, you have to send them there. Are you building a list using other methods? That's where you should start.

        Good Luck

Well I'm not quite sure where to start. You can't just put up a site and expect it to be flooded with traffic. That is the reason there are countless WSO's on how to generate traffic and get some Google love. Your domain name certainly isn't going to get any searches at least until people recognize your name as someone relevant in those niches. Are you articles optimized around specific longtail keywords you have researched? Do you have external links pointing to each optimized article? Those are just a few things you need to be doing.

It's not worthless information, it can help people. Go through the content on the site and tell me if its worthless.

At least it's not a useless site promising to make you thousands online if you buy their magic software. The info on the site can help people.

Personally, I think there is not enough content above the fold.
If you don't engage the visitor immediately, I think a lot of people will go away.
In any case, having content above the fold is an SEO requirement after Penguin.

Hey Adam... I'll be the one to tell you this, straight up: this site looks awful. Design choices aside, things like "© copyright 2012 Copyright by Example of Preview" in the footer show your visitors that you haven't even taken the time to properly set up this basic theme. How are they supposed to believe you are an expert in this (or any) niche?

It seems like you're committed to learning and to improving, which is fantastic. Here are some suggestions:

    1) Go to Premium WordPress Themes, Web Templates, Mobile Themes | ThemeForest and purchase a real, professional WordPress theme. They're like $25-$35. You can go ahead and use a free theme if you want to, but bear in mind that free themes usually require a bit of work in the graphics and customization department to make them unique enough to stand out. There are many drag and drop themes on ThemeForest that would make this site look a heck of a lot better with very little work.

    2) Get someone to edit your writing. Your content reads like it was written by someone who either doesn't make use of English as their first language (which is fine), or they were in a huge hurry and didn't really edit it before it was placed online. Either way, you're not building any sort of trust in your readers when they see content like this; that's not to mention how the search spiders are going to view it. Try running your writing through Grammarly to see where you're making errors, and learn from them.

    3) Finally, lose the affiliate links in every post. Yes, I get that you're an internet marketer and that you're trying to make some money, but by creating nothing but outbound links to ClickBank or Affilorama you're both destroying your credibility and shaping how the search spiders will view your intentions. Take (7 Ways To Drive Traffic To Your Website | Adams Online Secrets) for example; you have mentions of YouTube, Facebook and Twitter... but no outbound links to them. Why? Why are the only two outbound links to Affilorama?

Take a step back and really give some thought to what you're trying to build here. If you build something of value, you'll earn something from it. Continue with the way you're going here and you will find nothing but disappointment.

    Good luck!

Took the words right out of my mouth. The site looks totally awful. And that content needs a lot of work. Pay to have some high quality content written if you're unable to do it yourself. And the image in your slider is very low quality. It looks like you took a 100x100 image and stretched it to 500x300. I suggest starting over completely from scratch. There are so many high quality Internet Marketing blogs out there you really have to work hard to compete.

    Adam,
Don't be too afraid to hire out the design to someone around here. One of the most profound lessons you will learn is that you don't have to do it all.

There are some fantastic designers here on the forum, and they provide very affordable services.

Time is money. Every moment you spend tweaking and fixing the site is a moment that could spent driving traffic to it, perfecting your copy, making sure that every visit provides value to the visitors....

  • The biggest mistake most people make is focus on selling to the first time prospect all people do that to me it's a mistake, you #1 goal is to sell them to want to be on your list and your site doesn't do that. Don't worry 99% of sites don't do that, just do that and you will then be on your way to money!

    Hi Adam,

    Good try!

Yeah...design needs to be a bit better. Also, if I was you I would ditch both Adsense and aff links.

    Why?

because it kills your website and your reputation. If you know something about SEO and affiliate programs offer your own services.

If you don't know much about SEO and aff programs you have to learn... otherwise you could hurt someones website.. and you don't want this do you?

When you have list send them your affiliate links.

(actually you could place ONE banner on each page... but just one!).

    Overall keep up good work!

Making money online is probably the most crowded niche. You have to make yourself different from others through practical knowledge and tips tricks for making money. But, what happens is, you even do not make money online but trying to push the product to others. If you think, your content is ok, why can not you taking help of those contents to make money for yourself? If those are not helpful, why people will come and visit your site?

There is some great advice given here!

A couple of things I would add to the other's advice is as part of the redesign add some color. Don't make it overwhelming, but some color really helps people feel like they want to stay on your site.

The other one I'll suggest is make the first thing people see/read is a relatively short and to the point article about the reason they are at your site and what you are providing to HELP THEM. They will want to continue to read further so that they don't miss what they need and want. Slowly work into a sale instead of trying to sell as soon as they land on your site. If you truly help them first I think you will find the trust needed to make sales.

My first impression was "What am I looking at?" Even if people know what to expect when they land on your site, you should probably have a static home page to explain what the blog is all about, why people should spend the time to read your content, etc, etc.

Design is... well, it's not too horrible if you know how to work with it. The ads kind of smack you in the eye when you land on the site, though, so I'd take those out until you have a loyal readership.

One other thing... nobody wants to sit and read 500 words written by someone they don't know. Consider setting up a page that tells who you are and why you're qualified to be teaching this stuff. Also, put some pics (stock photos or original) and format the articles so they're not so intimidating. Scannability is HUGE in content writing. If an internet reader can't pick out some valuable info at first glance, they're going to move on.

I think your site is totally OK for adsense. and the clear reason for not getting the clicks is the monetize of your ads. look at the color combination? Its not good good. but the placement is really cool.

"How To Make Money Online From Home For Free"

Remove the word "free" from there. When people visit your website they're lookin for quality stuff. When you put the word "free" they're going to expect something that doesn't cost a penny. Don't presell them on the wrong stuff. This is just a small thing, but it might change your sales % by a lot!

Also, you have too much advertisements for a blog that's just getting started. Remove those, especially adsense as this is not the right time to do it. For now you have to write content. There are so many techniques that can easily help you get the traffic that you need.

This is a blog, so start building a list right away. Offer freebies with VALUE. You will get there in 30 days if you are dedicated and follow these steps.

I would say be happy that your getting views and heck $5 in adwords is not a bad start. Keep making post, and send your articles to directories to get even more traffic. It's all a numbers game, some of us just convert numbers better. Keep pushing forward and dont get discouraged. Everyone keeps talking about design but if the articles have good enough info, it really does not matter what the site looks like.

If you want to increase income, I suggest finding clickbank products that you can offer that might help with the leg work of your post. Example, a post about link building at the bottom you could offer a cb product that is an easy link building platform.
