Finding niches you never even knew existed...

You hear the advice to pay attention to the news to uncover niches. Some beginning marketers scratch their heads and wonder how that works.

Maybe you hear about the rise in muggings. So that makes you think of self-defense stuff, like pepper spray, self-defense instruction, etc.

You hear about floods... think flood insurance.

You read about a new diet drug coming out (good for weight loss niches).

And sometimes you just run into a niche that you had never even thought about before. For example:

Oregon farmer buys hundreds of water beds for his cows | The Sideshow - Yahoo! News

Cow waterbeds.

Tell you what, I had NO idea this product even existed until I saw it on the news. And it sounds like it's a growing as the idea catches on more and more.

Ideas:

-- Find a cow waterbed seller who has an affiliate program.

-- Become an independent seller.

-- See if there are dropship opportunities.

-- Create a blog about pulling more profit out of a dairy farm (that's the idea behind the the water beds: happy cows = more milk = bigger profits).

--Write a book about the topic.

... And all the other (usual or not-so-usual) ways you can take advantage of a niche idea.

cheers,
Becky

The better way to do this is to gather the RSS of TONS of news blogs and run software that finds trends and sees if the domain names are registered. Also, there's a cross referencing tool for social media mentions.

As for blogging niches, inquistr.com already does what you say. It is called trend sniping.

      Yep.

People can and should do that if they're specifically looking for ideas.

In my case, I was actually reading the news like I do every day, just to see what's going on in the world. I wasn't looking for ideas. But they do jump out at me when I see them.

Point is, pay attention. Even when you're not working on your business, pay attention.

Haha yeah, I have so many niche ideas it makes my head spin. I try my best to focus on just a couple but I always get tempted to start in another niche.

    • I remember a few years ago there was a marketer who made 7 figures by offering $100,000 farm equipment through affiliate links, awesome niche site and sales funnel.

It just goes to show, people are banking on 'everything' that is profitable.

Seriously though, cow water beds? That is awesome.

      Cheers,
      Chris
