Two easy and simple ways to improve your speed is:

    1. Install a caching plugin, eg: W3TC or WP Super-Cache
    2. Create a free CloudFlare account for your site/s.

I heard W3TC is a great plugin, but I didn't succeed in using it, the loadiong speed just wouldn't increase no matter what I tried

Have you tried running a test on something like Pingdom or Webpagetest.org to see what's potentially causing issues on your site?

Check, and fix, your image sizes. especially if you have quite a few or some large ones on certain pages.

Smaller header graphics size, and test the site after installing new plugins.

I use: Pingdom Tools quick testing.

      These are good points.

Use Super Cache in conjunction with CloudFlare. If your web host is a CloudFlare partner, they will have it integrated already, you just need to enable it.

You may also need to look into your web hosting situation. Typically "unlimited" web hosting is overloaded and poor performing.

The quality of your hosting environment will play a HUGE part in this.

Just my simple and quick response off the top of my head.

Maybe installing too many plugins or the design optimization isn't that great. It could other factors with the server and etc...

....yup too many, too large images can cause huge performance issues!

But do agree that just as important is getting hosting that is reliable and using a free web-monitoring service which will alert you to any performance issues - or in worst case scenario let you know when your site has gone down. Pingdom and Monitor.us pretty good, but also check out statuscake.com which allows you to monitor unlimited websites - checking every 5 mins for uptime from 5 countries around the world.

Good luck - hope everyone's tips helped!

From my own experience a simple idea, don't use too much plugins & too many images which takes longer time to load.

Wordpress total cache plugin is good if you want to speed up your blog, also try to use light weight theme. if you also use lot of plugins will slow down your site, use only few important plugins to maintain good speed.

It also depends on themes and plugins, some themes are light and they can give SEO benefit too, using too many plugins would also make your site load slower.

In addition to using a cache plugin like the ones recommended so far, you can use the Smush It plugin to optimize your pictures.

You should know that it automatically optimizes new pics added but after installing and activating it on an older site with existing pics, you'll have to go to media >> Bulk Smush it >> click button to go through and optimize/"smush" all the pictures in your media library.

When it's completed you'll see the percentage that it is able to reduce each picture file size.

WP-Optimize is a great plugin that can help with increasing speed because it will help it run more efficiently. It can do all of the following:

      -Remove all Post revisions
      -Remove all auto draft posts
      -Clean marked Spam comments
      -Clean Unapproved comments
      -Optimize database tables

You just need to check the boxes beside each option you want it to include and then click the "Process" button.

After it has processed, scroll down and you'll be able to see the results. It's an impressive plugin.
