Register a new domain or build from my current site with a sub-domain or sub-directory?

I am interested in building an online store, but I'm not sure if I should use my current domain or register a new one. My website is Pennyroll.com, it's been online since 2008, but has nothing to do with shopping and I don't really want to make it into a shopping site. I also don't want to mess-up the search traffic for specific keywords. But it has been around for a while and if I can benefit from building the store at an aged domain then I would like to: As I see it, I can:

Register a new domain altogether
Create a sub domain: shop.pennyroll.com
Create a sub-directory pennyroll.com/shop

This is my first post here and I really appreciate any feedback, Thanks!

    Do the things your selling have anything to do with the pennyroll site? If not, just register a new domain. The google juice from a domain thats only a few years old is probably less than you think.

    If the store is related to pennyroll, you could use a subdomain and leverage the traffic you have now to launch your store.

      No, actually the store would have nothing to do with pennyroll at all, it would basically be a window shopping store. The products would be a random mix of things. On another level I like the ring to shop.pennyroll.com.

      My concern is that since I get search traffic for things like "home-based-business ideas" and I build a store full of products; then I start getting traffic for "xyz product" will it eventually start to break the keywords I get traffic for currently.
