Newbie question for Acne Niche

I started an Acne website 6 months ago without knowing anything. I only made about $15. My site probably ranked about somewhere in the thousands!!

I just have a simple question. Do you people think the acne niche is too competitive for a newbie?

Sincerely,
Jen

maybe do some keyword research on acne, how much potential traffic you could receive and with this information build a ppc campaign on google adwords to join in on this industry. If you can fund the budget then i think ppc is a great way to be seen on the internet.

I think any industry you work in you have competitors and if you cant beat them then join them. If its something you are interested in and you can provide what the customers are looking for, then make a good business/marketing plan and keep working on it.

I wouldn't stop doing something because its very competitive, if its competitive it might give you the extra push to get yourself out there.

    Good luck!

There are truck loads of keywords you can go after in this niche. It is, of course a very big market, but you can definitely make money with it. I have a health website that promotes many different products and makes regular sales promoting acne treatments on that website. If your website is solely themed on the subject of acne, you can easily rank for long tail keywords and LSI keywords without having to do that much backlinking. Just make sure your on page stuff is up to scratch and your internal linking is structured properly.

With enough original content on your website you will get some good free search traffic for keywords you haven't even optimized for. Cover your topic well and update your site often. Participate in forums related to your niche. Set up social accounts and link them together.

You have to stick with it. It took me 6 months to make my first $100 from my first website and it was a lot of hard work. Finally the penny dropped though and I got out of creating websites related to subjects I had no passion for.

You can spend the next 6 months working the same hours previous, and have little to show for it. You haven't built a list within the first 6 months? What a waste. Although, building a list in the acne niche is not exactly ideal. It can be done, of course, but why choose an acne niche to create a list when there are far more lucrative niches that have continuing problems to be solved for existing prospects.

Unless your an acne freak who loves to write about this stuff, I would suggest you think long and hard about your long term goals here. This is just my opinion, but my first website was promoting "strollers" and I had similar results to yours. I regard those first 6 months promoting that niche as a complete waste of time. That's just me though. I know the system and the strategies you're implementing because I have, like many others, been there before and know all to well that it is the least effective way to earn a living online.

    Just my thoughts though.

It's not too saturated. Just do long-tail research and provide great content.

If SEO is all you're planning to focus on - then yes absolutely. Acne niche is too competitive for a newbie.

But take a step back and look at the market. There are thousands of sites on acne. Thousands of publishers. Can you get on these websites with articles and ads? If so, then you can do pretty well with acne.

I am a complete newbie, starting my new site with wordpress. I do have programming background, but I think I should just go and buy an aged domain.

No offense, but acne niche is hardcore in seo. All the SERPS = 100% manipulated or some big authority website dominates them. Be creative you don't even need a website, build a good Squidoo page and you should be able to get page 1 for a good keyword.

Acne, while it is tough to get rid off, it is also one of the toughest niches to rank.. So NO for a newbie..

Even thought yes it's competitive... I'm sure you can find a way to reach customers... You've already made some money without knowing how you did, so there is a chance to make it.

Also keep in mind that even if there is 1000's of competitors... not all of them are good... do better than 1 of them and you're good.

PS: try to make at least 2-4 sales a month and sell the site if you want to.

I think acne niche has a big competition. But take into account that competitors are always there whatever niche you are in. You must know some basic SEO. Take some time for research. You'll find some solution that can answer your question. There's a lot of ways you can optimize your site. Do some long tail keyword research that will fit your niche site and create some great contents.

On the side note, if you find it difficult. You can go through with SEO some consultation. I'm sure it will definitely help you with your site optimization.

    Hope it helps.

It would definitely take a lot of work. But don't just rely on SEO, work on being active on Yahoo! Answers, forums, and creating videos. If you enjoy working in this niche and connecting with others to help them, you'll get a lot more out of it. But if there's something else that's more interesting to you, I would jump into that niche ASAP.

Acne is a good niche actually, one of those where girls wanna secretly find answers on the net than asking people in real life. If you do a good research on acne, you will found so many main keyword with lots of search but still low seo comp. You must dig deeper for these type of keywords. I do adsense keyword research for others and still find uptapped keywords in this niche. Just keep digging deeper!!
