Website Review Contest?

I'm thinking of having a review contest for my website (something like bloggers review my site and post it in their blogs) but would like to gather some tips & help before doing it.

1) Where I can announce the contest to have a little bit of exposure? Is there some kind of marketplace for this? All I can see in forums are usually logo design contest.

2) If pure cash is the prize, how much will be the first prize in order that it will get an attention?

3) What other non-cash prize should I have?

4) Will it be possible to have a sponsor for a contest? If so, how?

Any other tips will be greatly appreciated

I'm not sure about your current level of visitors, but running these types of contests can be a double-edged sword.

If you get a lot of participation, then that's great. It can give you even more exposure (and the right kind) as people come in trying to win the contest.

    However...

If you only get a few people participating, or the participants are lackluster, then your site will look small and uninteresting. In other words, a contest can backfire.

The type of contest you're suggesting can work, but you should be reasonably sure that the participation rate will be high first. Have you done other interactive things with your visitors in the past? How did that go?

Just some things to think about.

    All the best,
    Michael

You can list your contest on contest directory with bloggers in related niche.

Other non cash prizes that will attract a lot of participation include

    Amazon vouchers
    iPad3
    Samsung S3
    Coaching
    Adsense optimised website etc etc...

Blog commenting would also be a good place for getting similar visitors to your site and review purpose as well.

Thanks for the input Michael, maybe I should do "other interactive things with your visitors" first before doing this.

I think that's a good idea. Get a feel for how responsive they will be. Perhaps something with a very low resistance barrier, like a one-question, multiple-choice poll would be a good start.

I tried running a contest a few years ago, and got two entries; neither of which was very good. Not only would a similar result give you very little personal value from the contest, but it could make you look "small", if you follow.

      All the best,
      Michael
