I have this idea, but is this going to work?

Hello warriors,

it's been a while since "i said" anything on this forum, mostly because i enjoy reading other people thoughts while trying to figure out what would i do if i were them. don't get me wrong if i believe i have anything good to say and help someone, i would surely say it.

okay, so i got this idea, but is this going to work?

it would be great to know from the start if i am going the right way and since i am doing this on my own (no help from other internet marketeers) i might start with the wrong foot, that's why i am asking you guys for a little advice.

my plan is to develop wordpress themes - i know what you are thinking: there are thousands of excelent theme suppliers out there plus there's themeforest, so why bother? well, to be honest i'm not very good at monetizing websites, heck i'm not good with cpa offers, to make it short i'm a disaster on internet marketing. Am i good with wordpress theme designs? That's what i'm going to find out...

here are my questions for you guys, hoping you will give me some good insights about theme promovation, because it's basicaly just another product i can promote:
  1. Where should i sell my theme - themeforest has a very strict approving system, once you're in you can start selling, but it's a living hell to get inside. Should i go with my own system? This option involves more time and money investment - develop an user interface that will allow users to pay for my services... probably this is the most profitable way, but since i'm at the beginning i would really like to stick with themeforest - half of the income goes to them, but i guess it's right
  2. If i fail with getting accepted inside themeforest, should i give this theme for free? I invested some time with it, but if themeforest denies my theme then it probably means i didn't do good enough.
  3. Going further on the road of failure - presuming themeforest denies me - should i develop a new site and only offer free premium themes? In time maybe i will get enough backlinks and traffic and monetize my traffic in other directions?
  4. How can i promote my wordpress theme - i bumped into Buy Sell Ads and noticed that the big web design blogs offer twitter promotions - $99 for a tweet to no less than 50k followers? A good web design blog such as 1stwebdesigner.com or webdesignerdepot.com should have some great credibility among their users, hopefully they will help me promote my theme, what do you think?
  5. This one is more of a conclusion: the best things in life are free... should i give up
  6. Would it be possible to get some paid help from some of the biggest internet marketeers around here? I'm open to any suggestions or discussions.

Hoping i will get some decent conversations and ideas around here, i just want to say thank you in advance.

Sincerely,
Steff

You can try promoting your theme as a WSO to check the demand rate or open a website building service with your theme as the main theme.

You can do this... I actually did this couple of years ago but my intention was not to sell themes but to promote my website.

Create your own site that sell your themes
Create themes and offer for free. Make sure to put your main web address the the footer of ever free theme downloaded. Imagine when there is a hundred of people uses your free theme, you8'll get 100 backlinks from 100 domains (not to mention other pages).

You only need to do a little promotion at first but once your free theme is getting viral, you don't have to do any SEO anymore. Your free themes will do that.

I tried this before and created just 5 free ugly themes. The site I was promoting got hundreds of thousands of backlinks and eventually sold at Flippa for more than $5K..

I don't suggest relying on other established theme sites. Build your own dynasty and who knows, you'll get bigger in no time...

Stefffff, people are crying out for quality wordpress themes here at the W.F.

I have asked in the past myself for a "Premium Wordpress Theme" that may be available here at this very forum.

Remember that there are a lot of people who are just starting out here at this forum and would probably love to have someone who they can buy lower priced Wordpress quality themes from.

Wordpress is easy to use so that is why so many online businesses use them and I know that there are loads of people here that would appreciate them as long as they are functional, easily customizable and look awesome at the smae time.

Just make one and roll it out as a W.S.O. to see how it goes.

Hope this helps and have a great day my friend!!!

gcbmark20 thanks... i can create themes for anyone interested free or paid, God knows i've always liked designing themes and helping others, even for free... the downside is i cannot support myself without having some income

i would like to start a poll or a thread where people can actually say what sort of themes they need... what niche they're activating in.. plus some other interest fields, so i can determine the need of the users...

Adie, nice for you to join my thread... that was the main reason why i would give my theme for free in the first place... i actually did that in the past with a free theme called Celebrism... got some free backlinks to one of my domains... later on i tried to make the Celebrism theme better and i actually tried to sell it on themeforest, but unfortunately they denied my application...

should i make this theme free? i hope nobody will get offended if i just put a link here: NewsIMO - this is the theme i designed i can offer it for free to anyone interested... if there are enough people interested i can create a download link with the full package - both pdf, psd and files... you said there are people interested in themes, my theme has 2 colors (dark and white) plus it is fully customizable from the admin.. so i guess this could be a nice start right?

my other theme is yet to be released, since i am still tweaking the admin options.

      what do you think guys?

P.s: i really appreciate your efforts and time to share your ideas with me.

      sincerely,
      Stef

thanks stavgeor, do you think it would be a good idea to try and give away 2-3 themes for free? and then design some new premium themes? will the free themes help me convert my new themes into real money?

Doing custom Wordpress work is a very lucrative business. Pitch your services in the Warriors For Hire section and I'm sure you'll see plenty of business if the price is right.

You could sell targeted WSO's (Offline marketing theme packages, affiliate review themes, etc).

Setting up your own site is also an option, you'd need to have a few themes available to sell, but it would probably be the most profitable.

          sincerely,

Is your work not worthy of your time?

If i fail with getting accepted inside themeforest, should i give this theme for free? I invested some time with it, but if themeforest denies my theme then it probably means i didn't do good enough.
If you think their selection process is strict, then perhaps you might want to consider applying these types of standards to your own business. It would say a LOT about the quality you strive to output.

And if you didn't get accepted on the first try, would you not then go back to the drawing board and keep making improvements until you were accepted?

You have to WANT IT bad enough.

really i'm a bit lost here: Offline marketing theme packages, affiliate review themes... what are affiliate review themes? offline marketing theme packages, sorry for asking, but i'm not familiar with these terms...
Use the search box. These terms have most certainly been used on this forum already - and are being sold now.

Selling your own theme is not about just putting up any old thing on a sales page - ESPECIALLY when it comes to this forum. It'll be beneficial to you to search out the other theme offers currently going on to see if your style is something to be sold on this forum.

    hi Jill thanks for joining...

i agree with you, if i want to make it inside themeforest i should do better... and i did...

"Selling your own theme is not about just putting up any old thing on a sales page - ESPECIALLY when it comes to this forum. It'll be beneficial to you to search out the other theme offers currently going on to see if your style is something to be sold on this forum." -

this one i don't really understand... i am not trying to sell any of my themes here, i just said i can give a theme free... if that's against the tos i am seriously sorry, but i thought freebies are always welcomed, no matter the forum.

and trust me it's not as old as you might think, the theme was created & improved in March, so 4-5 months should not be considered OLD...

i'm not trying to promote any of my products, i'm just asking questions.... didn't you already noticed i'm not even my signature for this thread?

if you feel in any way offended by this thread let's call it closed, i'm looking for people to give me ideas, i'm not looking to promote any of my themes.

    sincerely,
    Stef
