Have any of you ever been hacked on ODESK?

Hi

My odesk and hotmail account have been hacked,

The hacker listed a job and hired two people, my account now owes them a total of $222. Thankfully my bank account that is linked to the odesk account declined any transactions.

The hotmail account that is linked to my odesk had all odesk emails set to block, I did not suspect this at first and thought maybe the odesk system was crashing. The hack and account blocks occocured 5 days ago, I worked out what happened today.

I can login to both accounts now but very concerned about this happening in the future.

I am currently working to get my odesk account reinstated as it is frozen due to non-payment.

I am running the free edition adaware spyware removal, any other suggestion and thoughts will be GREATLY appreciated.

Well, it may be due to your information stolen by others, may be your clients, you may have gotten any link and by clicking on that links, you gave all the information which was on your desktop..

By all probabilities, you may have clicked on a phishing link. Thus the hacker got access to your account credentials. It is better to contact the support system of oDesk. In the mean time, download combofix and run it. It should fix any spyware/trojan/viruses that lurk in the background.

      Its make me so sad.
Contact support they will tell you the instructions to sort it out.

For me the problem was that I clicked a phishing link from an employer which took me to a website that allowed the hacker to gain access to my passwords. Possibly by "bugging" my computer somehow.

My linked e-mail account was also hacked and the oDesk e-mails did not get to my inbox as the hacker blocked them, which meant that I didn't know about the problem for a week.

Basically the hacker sent out job offers from my account and tried to pay for the work using my linked bank account. In total around $400 worth of work.

Luckily the transactions were automatically denied by my bank and oDesk froze my account because of this. However, I did lose some clients because the hacker sent phishing links to all my contacts.

Support was great at sorting this out and now my account is back to normal. To get it there I had to restore my computer to factory conditions. Change all my passwords (including e-mail one). Also change the security answer.

Contacting Odesk support was a good move to fix the issue. Maybe if this happens to me, I might "consider" closing an old Odesk account and just create a new one. I will keep in mind to be extra careful when clicking on some links (from an employer or otherwise).
