is this a viable niche you'd build a site around?

Ok folks I need some help.

I have found the biggest problem my target audience are having by surveying them. Every one has had the same problem, although 50:50 said they were prepared to buy a solution to the problem with some unsures.

Ok so I checked keywords in exact match and although every person I have talked to has this issue in this area, the keyword search on exact match is less than 1000, well around the 200-300 mark.

I have checked Youtube for interest and it would seem there are a lot of videos out there and the biggest viewing is 600,000 for one on this problem.

I also checked Google autosuggest and there are a good few keywords that are suggested, so as I believe, there IS enough demand or Google wouldn't suggest alternative words.

However, I go into Keyword Google Adsense Tool and the search volume is so poor the alarm bells are ringing :-).. BUT there ARE a lot of variations on the same words...

My question: do these variation keywords on the same problem add up to the demand? I reckon I could get to 5000 exact match specifically on this problem area? The words have 0.06 for CPC, so does this mean then that commercial intent is basically very weak and I should not bother?

See, my gut instinct says go for it via You tube videos and Facebook marketing etc...and not take exact match too seriously??

Is this a viable online business whereby I can sell a few of my own products- would you go ahead or skip this idea...I repeat there IS a definite problem issue that could be addressed nicely here with millions of people in my target audience...that is what I don't get - just about all of target audience have this problem yet keywords are so weak. Any help would be appreciated. Ta.

Sometimes we can unearth niches that simply aren't there yet. If you have surveyed your prospects and find that a lot of them would pay for a solution to the problem, and there's not much competition, why not create the solution yourself and market it to those people. Without the niche you're talking about, it's hard to figure out if it can be scaled to generate enough revenue.

You say "millions" but somehow that just doesn't add up. Millions of people looking for a solution to a particular problem is a goldmine industry.

Either your research is flawed, or you have unearthed an untapped goldmine. Personally, I think the former is more likely to be true, but hey, I have been wrong more than once before

For what you're doing, exact match numbers are worthless. I'd look at the broad match instead because that'll pull in a wider range of searches. Exact match is good for looking up EMDs and SEO tactics. Broad match is just the opposite...it pulls in people who are searching for things like your keyword.

Hey thanks so much for the time in helping me out!

I was somehow thinking exact match is the b-all and end-all - well the broad match on the exact problem comes out at 165,000, another variation at 110,000, another variation of the same thing 49,000...and so on down to long tail questions at 8000 global monthlies. Is there potential??

I am honing in on a specific problem this massive market has and I have the solution they need. All the competition are marketing too generally and not addressing the problem directly...so I can see I can bypass all of them by offering the only site in the world on this specific problem...and there is a tonne of content I can write on this subject going very deep! I am also an expert in this area too which helps:-).

So, on this should I go for it? In someways I feel I should give it a go. Not only will it be amazing fun cos I am very passionate about this problem, I will learn one heck of a lot in the process....and might even make some money in the process.....OR??? Thanks.

...also the broad match volumes are all 'low' competition.

Since you are passionate about the subject, I would go for it! One of the obvious things to look for is -- are there many PPC ads for the keywords you are checking out that sell products to this niche? If so, someone is already making some money here.

Hi Dan, I found 3 ads and these are not solving the exact problem. There are little ads to be found :-( though under the other keywords although cpc is around 1-2 dollars per click (?). I just find it so bizarre that no-one has honed in on the actual problem just about every one in this target audience is having...they are marketing many other problems but not the biggest one of all. The 5 magazines I read in this market have an article every month on the topic...books in Amazon, again, too broad and just 'cover' the issue...and many sites touch on it but don't address it full on...everyone I am talking too is saying just do it and see...at least Ill have no regrets...ads or no ads... anymore expert opinions would be so helpful. Thanks again.

also the most read article by far on my present site is this problem - it is the most emotive too in this market...I believe I just have to go for it and see.

I think if you promote site or do PPC on all these variations and total traffic is high then I would go for it.

Think about it this way...how many sales will you need to cover your expenses? If your confident you can make at least that many then there should be NO reason to not try it!

I agree with RexMapes. Besides, if you don't try you'll never know and you could have passed on a goldmine of an opportunity. I'd just go for it!

If you're not too sure to start with, don't sink in too much capital but do enough to really test the market. Once you see interest and money coming in, then put in more.

      All the best!
