Niche-focused PLR business: Is it worth going for?

Hi everybody, I was thinking about starting my own niche-focused (travel) PLR store and wanted to ask you a few questions:

1. Do you think it can make a good business ?
2. How many categories and how many packs should I have, in order to get started (and not looking too small)?
3. What are the best marketing channels for PLR businesses ?
4. Are you familiar with any good resource/s or course for people who want to start their own PLR business?
5. Any other tips or advise ?

Many thanks and have a lovely weekend,

Roni

Travel niche is a huge niche so you have a pretty good chance if you are planning to provide PLR materials for this niche.

From the PLR dealers I've talked with lately, PLR sales have been down for a month or two. It could be that they're not marketing their products correctly or it could just be a downtime for that section of IM.

If you can network with the right travel sites, you could create a very strong niche for yourself.

Thank you, but what do you reckon IS the right way to market a PLR store? Should I focus on travel websites, or maybe on travel-related businesses (such as hostels and small hotels who need some nice travel articles for their sites)???

      Have a nice weekend, Roni

I haven't looked into how profitable your niche is, but if it is highly-profitable, I'd say go for it. I know a number of people who make really good money from their PLR stores. You might want to check out PLR ATM by Tiffany Dow.

She has a long-standing reputation for putting out quality stuff and for teaching the things she actually does. She has a internet marketing blog, a PLR store, does ghostwriting, is getting into Kindle...She's a "Warrior" here, too. The woman is awesome! :-)

Ha! I was going to post a similar question because I'm going to be launching a PLR subscription service but I'll be targeting 2 or 3 popular niches and also offering $1 rewrites to make the articles unique for people afraid of duplicate content (amazing how many people don't understand what duplicate content actually is).

The thing is PLR article is not helpful for SEO but it may help in many other ways as well. You can just sell PLR articles on your site but try to keep the rate a little cheap for better result.

What do you mean by "a little cheap"? I know that a reasonably good PLR article will normally be sold for s'thing like US$ 1 (US$ 10 for a pack of 10)... How much do you think I should ask in order to get good results (My articles are good, unique, and original)

      Cheers, Roni

$1 per article is a good price if it's a limited release but a lot of people would complain about that price if they're just using them for tier 2+ linkbuilding or something similar. You'll probably have to build a list and target people that actually intend to use them to create adsense sites or other money-making endeavors if you want to get $1 an article. I'm just starting out in PLR and decided to charge ~20 cents per article for a big batch (157). Once I have a target audience that would value them higher, I'll come up with a different offering. My articles are top notch, too, but you have to offer a low price until you build a rep.

Thanks for the detailed reply, MariseMedia. It looks like you did your homework properly, which makes me feel like listening to your advise :-)

Are there any other "beginner tips" / resources you can help me with ?

Thanks again and have a lovely weekend,

Don't go too cheap with your PLR. Most people will question your quality. My PLR sells just fine at $1 per page but I go less during sales or for special deals. (Sometimes I'll do a 20 pack for $12.) Don't cheapen your work.

I highly suggest niche-focused PLR stores. My site covers many niches and it does well, but with a specific niche you can brand your store as the go-to store for that type of content. Your list will also be more targeted and you will get more repeat business.

As for how many packs, I suggest starting with a freebie pack to gather opt-ins and just release stuff as you complete it. Don't worry about having a huge stock to start, that will come with time.

For marketing your list will be huge. I also suggest setting up a Twitter, FB page, and G+ for your PLR business.

Feel free to add me on Skype and I can answer some more questions for you! I'd love to help out.

It is Memitaru. For future reference, many people have their Skype usernames in their profile. You'll see a Skype logo in the area below their avatar when they post.
