squidoo or your own website

squidoo pages are super easy to rank for low comp keywords but I want to rank for medium competition keywords with higher traffic, should I start my own blog and build my authority anyone had big success with a medium sized amazon niche site, each time you build a new squidoo lens it's almost like a new page except with a bit of authority, how long does it take to build authority in the search engines

I just prefer to have my own websites. I use WordPress as my choice. I do know of some people that use Squidoo and make money but I think I make more money with own site.

As a smart and pretty lady on this forum often says, don't put your business in the hands of services you don't control. That goes for blogging platforms, autoresponders, URL shortening services and everything else.

Absolutely - Squidoo is great as a way of building links to your main site, but not as your main money site, because you have no control & could lose all overnight. Lose a backlink, it's not serious, lose your main money site and it can be.

I would second that, but take it a step further, why do you have to choose between the two why can you do both?

Why invest time and effort in something that can be gone without a trace tomorrow? I'm coming from experience on this. I had a nice little affiliate setup on Hub Pages and one day get a notice that I've gone against their TOS.

But I hadn't and I wrote to them and told them so. They wrote back and said I was technically correct but that they were changing the rules soon and when that was official, I'd be an outlaw. Geez.

Many hours of work gone as the page was ranking well. BTW, the method I used to get that positioning was from a 5-page report I picked up in the War Room. But that's not the point. The point is don't invest time, money and effort in stuff you don't control. Period.

I agree. Why don't do both? You can rank Squidoo pretty high and fast and making quick money from affiliate commission (short term income)..and at the same time work on building your own authority site (long term income).

I definitely think that this is the best way and strategy to maximize your online income rather than just focus on either squidoo or your own site. Period.

This. It's why I stay away from hosted forums and Blogger if I can.

Yes, hold as much control as you can. Don't give away control when there is a viable alternative option. There are so many things you can't control in this business so wherever you can, hold onto it. Yes, Wordpress could go away and the whole internet could blow up but do what you can within reason.

Wordpress could go away but as long as you own the domain you can carry on. If you had your business on Wordpress or Squidoo exclusively, without your own domain, all your content could disappear overnight. It's the domain that's important, not so much the platform you use to be online

you must have your own website to do that. its the best option. and another thing is that for amazon the WordPress really works great.

I agree with many in this forum and this thread.

It is "wise" to have your own hosted site then start putting content to some other site.

If things go wrong and it can happen, you lose everything and all of your hard work is out to waste.

Use Squidoo just for linking purposes. That's it.

I think almost everyone agrees that it is by far focusing your energy and time on your own site. I use squidoo for backlink and it's great to use it for link-building.
