Check Your Paypal Account!

I just logged into my Paypal account and found out that someone by the alias of Nicholas Brand has cleaned out my account. They made mutiple payments in $10, $50, $100 increments until I had less than $10 in my account.

I urge you to check your account immediately and change your password.

Michael

Scammers never sleep. They never stop. You know from which IP or country. Can paypal reverse anything?

I had some fraudulent charges through a linked account once and while it ended up not actually being on Paypal's end, I still changed the password to something so tough I have to look it up every time I log into my account. I do the same for almost all of my important online accounts. I figure if I'm going to get hacked the thief deserves to get in if they can crack my insane passwords!

Just a word of warning to any newbies: NEVER disclose ANYTHING AT ALL about how you choose your passwords. Even the above information could be useful to a hacker

While I agree with your post, I don't imagine anyone would be stupid enough to talk about their password online.

And that information above, the only way that is going to help any hacker is by letting them know not to bother

Wow! That's pretty amazing. I know that Paypal have reached into my bank (even after I withdrew my cash from my bank account) and the bank allowed them and it went into negative balance and the bank sent me a nice letter so now that Paypal have been alerted they should be able to reach into that persons transactions and even bank accounts and get it all back. Did these guys also change your email address? Were you not notified of everything "you" bought?

    You should contact their support.
And it is an important thing to keep in mind: Never ever enter your paypal details without checking the website's url in the address bar,a scam is going on these days in which you will recieve an email by paypal(not paypal but it will look like it) and it contains a link to login. it is nothing but a paypal clone to get your details.

This is called phising and has been going on for years. It's nothing new but it's definitely something to always be weary of.

Sorry to hear about your PayPal account. Hoping you can have everything resolved with the least amount of stress possible! :]

I know that it is going on for years but still people don't use safety methods. I was writing it to spread a word on how to stay away from phishing.

Alarming news! Did you contact with their support team? With your transaction records, inform their customer care. Because, changing password is not a long term solution, when they got your password one time, they can do that again. I am still ok, but feeling unsecured.

PayPal has a mechanism in place that will limit your account when their system sees that a different IP address accessed/is trying to access your PayPal account. Report this to PayPal immediately, hoping you can reverse those unauthorized charges.

Thanks for the warning. I immediately check my account in PayPal. Good thing It is still intact. No other transaction were made for the last 48 hours.

Ill-minded person will never stop to do evil things just for money. It is just a sad thing though that they use this kind of smartness and intelligence to take advantage and steal from people.

  • Paypal hacking has become a worldwide problem in recent days. A big number of people loosing their money. Some of friends were telling me about it. I was shocked to see the reality. Paypal should take some strong step against it. They can protect their users by having a 2 step account security like google do. It will decrease the number of hacking immediately.

      Michael,

Normally Paypal sends an email confirming each transaction. It doesn't sound like you got any of those? You should probably change passwords for your email accounts as well.

Thanks for sharing Michael. The best thing to do is monitor paypal accounts regularly.

This is alarming. I keep getting these dam emails pretending to be from Paypal but it's not. The scammers are getting so good at targeting people.
