Is there a difference in googles eyes by using a wordpress plugin that insert pictures from the web and into my site (I assume the pictures are from sites that approves them being used on other sites) VS royalty bought photos? Can you rank your pages/posts higher by using royalty free images instead of images alot of other sites might be using too? Sincerely Karl |

Grab yourself a Flickr plugin for wordpress, there are royalty free images on there that you can use.

It may not make a difference to Google, but it may be important to the person holding the image copyright. What is the image source?? If it's from a G search for images on a topic, every one I've ever seen has included the statement "image may be subject to copyright.". Maybe I'm just over cautious, but have made it a point to only use images from sources that I'm reasonably sure will not create copyright issues. |

Hi Google can't really 'see' the pictures so it relies on meta-data like the file name, title, description, tags, etc. That is why (if you are keyword optimizing) you want to use an ALT tag containing your keyword for the image to tell Google what it is. Google also doesn't enforce copyright. They will display, rank and value your pictures whether you own them legitimately or have 'borrowed' them. Those issues are policed by the rights holders. Often very aggressively policed for companies like Getty Images. You can also display images hosted on 3rd party sites using the IMG SRC=externalsite.com/image.jpg. In this case Google can tell the image is not hosted on your site, but you can still provide ALT tags and description tags for SEO purposes. In terms of SEO and ranking, Google evaluates the page as a whole not each individual code snippet. As long as you are using proper layout and tags, using a local image file or using a URL from an external site like Flikr or Photobucket should not have have a significant impact on your onpage SEO. There are WordPress plugins that make it easier to embed, tag and attribute photos so they are helpful to you but they don't do anything you couldn't do when inserting images manually such as enter a description, alt tags, etc. Plugins just make it easier. In the eyes of Google there is no difference, Google looks at the display code used by the browser not whether that code was generated manually or by a tool. Mahlon |
