New to this and looking for advice for an idea...

Hi - I have just signed up here and finding all the information great though a little overwhelming! I wasn't going to post anything yet until I'd joined in on a few discussions, but think it's better to start a new thread rather than divert one to a different subject!

To fill you in, I have been researching a TV project for a couple of months - How to Get Rich...in a Recession and am in talks with a large UK production company. The idea was for me to do an experiment - to see if I could turn £1000 into £100,000 using recession-proof industries in 90 days, with the help of a well-known mentor.

As television commissioners can take forever to make a decision, and my finances were looking worse by the day, I decided that I was just going to do it myself - and if they pull themselves together by the 1st April when I'm planning to start the challenge properly, they can follow me doing it.

Having spent a lot of time researching the subject - the Internet was an obvious choice to use for one of the methods to make money and I decided to create a site - How To Get Rich In A Recession (.com) - as a resource for people struggling during this recession.

Prior to starting on the 1st April though, I need to spread the word so that others can join in with me or follow the experiment.

I know that you guys are all obviously very experienced in this field and might think that what I'm doing is pitiful (!) but as well as needing to make an income for myself, I also really do believe that if more people thought creatively, we could get ourselves out of this crisis more quickly, and this time build more solid foundations.

So, what I'm trying to say is that I would appreciate any advice that anyone would be willing to give me on how I can promote the site. I'm learning more every day but feel like I've only touched the tip of the iceberg.

Thank you in advance

I would start off by buying a domain and hosting a blog telling people what you are planning and inviting them to join you that way you will get lots of traffic as people love a challenge and lots of replies on your blog.

Yes, put a blog on the site too. You should consider using the blog as a "CMS" and use it to manage your site. I suggest WordPress. You can install it via your Cpanel using the Fantsastico menu.

You will be miles ahead in terms of getting traffic and getting seen by the search engines with a blog.

      Best regards, Gren.

The site is actually a wordpress blog and I've been posting to it for about 5 days now. I may build a site around it soon.
        What is a CMS?
        thanks

Thank you Tina. I have discovered a love of blogging! Used to write years ago but found it a bit lonely - at least with blogs you feel that you are communicating with an audience.
I'm reading so much here and other areas on the internet - I just don't know where to start! Also, with this challenge I'm on a limited budget so can't use any of the pay options. I need to start with free traffic and still don't really understand how people find blogs.

    CMS is Content Management System.

Wordpress works great for this - it basically means that your content sits in a database, and Wordpress can use it in different ways. You no longer need to build every individual page by manually, like the old days. =)
