Screen Recodring 4Free

Hi Guys,

after learning a lot from this forum, I would like to give something back. So here is a short review of two free web recording products:

1. Citrix Goview
GoViewâ„¢ Beta : Home

This is a new service from Citrix Online. It's only available for Windows at the moment. You install the recording agent. It sits in your tray and you can directly click on it to record your screen.

The cool thing is, your stuff is automatically uploaded to the cloud.

They also have an online editor. But to be honest, it's very limited at the moment. It's flash editor, which is pretty cool. So you can do the editing online. But you only can add some text to the video and you can cut stuff from the video. Well, better than nothing.

You can send the link via email, and everyone with a flash player can take a look.

The product also uploads the stuff while you record. This saves a lot of time with uploading videos afterwards.

One of the downsides is, that you only can record the whole screen.

2. Jing
Jing | Add visuals to your online conversations

This is available for mac and windows.
This is a project from TechSmith. They are the developers of Camtasia. Which is probably the best screen recording software for windows.

Jing is also available as PRO version. It's 14,95$ a year.
It gives you better quality. Smaller video files and the ability to upload directly to YouTube.

The normal version is very cool. You can record video as well as shoot screenshot photos. You can record the whole screen of areas.

You can upload your videos to Screencast.com automatically. You can register a free account there as well. Which gives you 2GB Storage and 2GB Bandwith a month. It"s very cool because you also can configure different security levels who can view what.

Summary:
I prefer Jing as a free tool. The only missing thing here is the editing. I would concider the PRO version because of YouTube upload and better video qualty.

I'm doing a lot of screen recording stuff for my main business. So editing is very important for me. I'm using two products:

Windows = Camtasia
Mac = Screenflow

They offer a lot of features! Screenflow is missing some of the auto uploading features the other tools have, but it's very flexible when it comes to edit and change your videos.

So it really depends on your budget and your OS.

Hope this is helpful for some of you.

Cheers
Dan
