Hi , i just read the news about people leaving facebook. In a small country like Switzerland , in the last month only, more than 10000 young left facebook . Why ? Too many ads , and the new timeline change , but the biggest reason seems because parents are into facebook too ,and they can control what the teens post ......Where do they go now ? It seems they went to WHAT'S UP , free SMS via iphone and more features , very fast way to communicate . This could be the end of facebook ? Not sure but it seems this trend is spreading all over the web world.

not sure if what'sapp is the death of facebook. Sure, teens might not like it as much when their parents there, but FB has a different concept in mind, with mature users.

all over the world there are a lot of Facebook users leaving FaceBook everyday for different reasons. but it still grows daily. There are a lot of Social networks around but FaceBook seem to dominate them. Google + seems to be growing too but just like any other network, some sign up some close accounts, some are dormant.

but your right about the ads

The one reason I have seen is Facebook is become a place of internet marketer being a place for friendship, social meeting etc.

I don't believe facebook is dying at all. If all of the teenagers started using a new platform to avoid their parents and grandparents, they would probably still use facebook a little bit to hide the fact that they are using something else for their REAL communication with their friends. Yep, I raised a couple of kids I did it SUCCESSFULLY I might add! They have both become productive, self supporting adults.

Getting back on track...Even if these teens didn't ever use facebook again, their parents would, because the parents have their own friends there as well. People hate the new timeline, but I believe that if facebook starts losing too many people over it, they will make another change, and continue to make changes until they get people rolling back in again. It's the nature of the beast (if the beast wants to survive).

Maybe this why I don't really understand internet marketing because I never notice ads at all unless they keep me from reading the content I want and guess what, when they do, I can't click "back" button fast enough no matter how interesting the content was that I wanted to see. I am talking about the pop ups, the "fill this out and emails submits" and then i win a free laptop or whatever. I guess that is why I have a hard time beleiving in alot of this. who really beleives by clicking on ads and putting a zip in, that you are going to get a free ipad or laptop.

At least on facebook which I am on multiple times a day, the ads are small and off to the side, I never have thought in 1 million log ons to click them at all.

I highly doubt Facebook will die!

It has over 800 million users, they aren't all going to suddenly cancel their accounts!

To be honest, I genuinely don't mind the adverts, I respect them because I respect the fact that we are able to use services like Facebook for free!

Would you prefer a few ads on the side of the page, or to have to pay for Facebook?

I'm sure 99.9% of people would choose the former!

Facebook isn't for everyone. I think a lot of people sign up and then realize it isn't really their cup of tea so they either cancel their account or just don't use it.

But, there are a lot of people that love Facebook and use it every day and I think those people will always be on there unless something similar (but better) comes along.

    - It is a good way for me to be reminded of birthdays.
    - Lots of invitations is sent only on facebook (birthdays, parties, etc.)

They are a very different tools. WhatsApp is simply an instant messaging platform whereas Facebook is a Social Media platform.

Facebook isn't dead - just yet, anyways. In my opinion, it's probably got a couple of years left in it.

There are a few things people don't agree with - timeline, for example, and the newly coming change of showing who has viewed your profile (ie, the removal of anonymous stalking).

I worked, professionally, developing games for facebook. This year, a Facebook-based game won a Bafta. That's a pretty big deal. It goes to show that the platform has opened up in ways that'll let new users enjoy the platform in ways that they haven't been able to.

I was invited to one of the facebook headquarters earlier this year - they've definitely got some plans to keep people attracted to it.

I think the stats are, on average, each user visits facebook 4 times a day. Each visit is (again, on average), 15 minutes in length. An hour a day from each visitor is a pretty big number - but more so when you consider the sheer amount of people that use the site.

The truth is, people leave and people join. That'll keep happening for a while yet.

people can understand now that ... facebook just taking benefit from People's time. Lot of ads and recently changed timeline. so though 1st time people found an environment about the sociability but now it's become commercial... like some one build a house in a open space but one day another one build another house and after that another one and after that another one... so after some days there is a gathering. So people who build the house 1st time ... he just loose interest from that place and finding another place to build a new house...

Actually human being it's self don't like gathering or sharing or contributing ... It's the nature or necessity which make human bound to do the things and otherwise human likes to live alone.....

    What you think ??

Any "maturing" business will move from a stage in the life-cycle of acquisition, acquisition, acquisition to one where people start to tire of the product and churn. The difference with Facebook is not that retention is done by the business, but more by the fact that people's lives become so intertwined with the product it's difficult to leave - want an example of how to talk people out of leaving your product / site then just go through the motion of trying to shut down your Facebook account. Many websites could learn a lot!

So yes people are leaving, but there are plenty coming behind to back-fill. And is there really a viable alternative out there?

  • Once critical mass hits then things must split/change, Facebook did not do that very well, they simply adapted. We see this is stocks all the time, supply and demand needs to be in balance, this is the fight, this is what needs and will happen regardless what we all think. Facebook was never designed to be what it is today. It's been re-purposed by it's creator and the users. If the creator is going to go in a different direction then the users, then an epic fail awaits. Look at Facebook, are they inline with what the majority of their users want. If supply and demand are not working toward each other consistently, then yes Facebook like anything else will degrade overtime.

While it's true that there are a lot of people leaving Facebook every day for a number of reasons (privacy concerns, not liking changes like Timeline, teens not wanting to be on the site with their parents, etc) there are also a lot of people joining Facebook every day.

I don't think it's dead, or dying any time soon. But with that said, to all of us who don't think Facebook will die, I have to point out that it wasn't too long ago that we all thought Myspace would be around forever. Sign into Myspace right now and tell me it's not dead. (edit: I think the fact that Tom is now using Facebook, Twitter and Google+ says it all)

I started a membership site this year. I'm kinda pleased with its associated FB page, and it's proving a good place to interact with my members. I prefer it to Twitter.

FB is going to be very hard to monetise. Their share price is lofty. Yet they're profitable, and they've built a brand of the size of McDonalds in less than 10 years.

I should try FB ads as at least their demographic information is better than Google's (which truly sucks, despite all those PhD's).

The popularity of Facebook is even growing as more and more people are coming and enjoying the service. Many people do not like timeline that does not mean that they are leaving Facebook. No need to be happy (or tensed!) regarding the future of Facebook. It will stay in top for many years, I believe as new generations are more attracted with Facebook and when they get a social group, there is no reason to leave that.

Facebook can never die as the increasing number of ads is a proof that more and more people are getting into social media promotions. Facebook still leads compared to other social media sites and still have a remarkable lead in terms of everyday posts. The timeline and ads are a demotivating factor making it all the more complicated but Facebook still has that old charm left with majority of the Facebook users.

Facebook not going anywhere for a long time and if what ever you are promoting holds value to others or is in demand you should not have to much of a problem getting results unless your selling video games then maybe you have a issue with the younger crowd leaving.

But Just a FYI all your marketing campaigns should not just be about facebook in the first place so it should not matter who comes and goes it happens to every social network and when some networks take a flop (like a myspace) their will always be another to take its place but if you put all your eggs in one basket and it drops.... Then you risk losing all your time and effort and possibly money for being limited with your marketing campaigns.

I think facebook is far to personal and probing. Its strange that people stoped using programs like myspace because of the lack of features. However, i think people have started growing sick of people knowing every intermet detail about a persons life and are moving back to programs like that. I closed my facebook account and felt good doing it. Sadly enough facebook has become one of those programs that people hate to use, but use it because they dont know what else to use.

No, Facebook is never dead.Facebook is the most popular social website. But at present everything is commercial where ad is posted. I think new timeline change is boring.
At present world Facebook is the biggest marketing place.Besides leaving Facebook is his own reason. So Facebook will never die. Thanks

For starters you can never really leave Facebook anyway. You can remove your profile, but your info is always stored in their database.

So if you do de-activate but sign in again you will automatically be re-activated like you never left.

Why do they do this? I'm not 100% sure but I think they thought ahead early on and realized that at some point people will want to leave the network, but later decide to re join.

...And this is exactly what happens very often.

So NO it will never be dead because new people join all the time, and most of the time older members re-activate their accounts and start using it again. Zuckerberg is a genius!

Well, Facebook's GROWTH is slowing, but it's still growing very nicely...

UP from 901 million users worldwide in April to 955 million.

Source: New York Times, July 26: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/27/te...ectations.html

To me, that looks like quite a few people for marketers to target.

Please show me your stats for paying customers coming off the facebook I've seen all the fancy plugins and programs out there, but I haven't come across any showing me the money their making off the folks using facebook.

When I first started learning the new Affiliate Game most of the Guru's I came across were avoiding the facebook marketing, but on a personal level I'm just going to have a presence everywhere and work on some LinkedIn, Bing, Yahoo, strategies.

  • First of all, Allan, it's great to see you here. The last
I heard, you were near death.(Yes, that was a while ago!)

My question to the rest of the forum...

"What's the big deal with the timeline?"

Everything is fun and exciting at first but after a while, it loses that new "feel"

It's like anything. If you had a brand new Ferrari, and you've never driven one before, you'd be driving it as much as possible. After a while the "newness" wears off. That's why billionaires have a crap load of different cars. Facebook or any social media site is the same.

It was new and exciting in the beginning but after having seen enough status updates of "I'm eating chicken with corn bread" or all the hot models wanting to be my friends (I did get a bit suspicious after seeing how many other guys they were being friends with and wasting all that time working on my six packs to impress them ), it just loses its excitement. People get bored and move onto something else and some new people will replace them.

No death, dying, disintegration, explosions or being cut in a million pieces with a life saber, just good ol' human nature.

Today they gave the numbers and said they had 955 million users, up 30 percent from last year. 1/7th of the worlds population.

Might just be me but that seems like it's far from the death of facebook.

The fact is once you have got nearly everyone in your target market it will eventually slow down.

I really don't think Facebook is dying...

The threats by people "leaving facebook" have been around since the first major change Facebook Rolled out back in it's early years.

People always "leave" facebook, but as long as everyone in their social group is still there, they will just keep coming back.

Facebook is pretty huge now, and even though they might get more annoying with more changes, more advertising, etc etc. There just aren't many better alternatives.

I wish people would leave it for Google +, but that is not going to happen any time soon.

According to people, Facebook has been dead since 2010. And guess what, they're still using it. It's definitely not dead... yet.

Come on, G+! Go, go, go!

Till the day Facebook & Twitter will be used as a means of social media marketing, their usage will not lower down as millions are not using it for fun but for getting businesses on daily basis.

Every Business has trends so do these channels have. Without any specific stats or research experience, we can just only predict what is gonna happen next which is really not a truth.

They should established a friendly relation with their children,
If it is going on perfectly no problem , Facebook is alive there or dead.

Otherwise if you tell them to give Facebook up ,they will not do it,because teen always goes against law, rule.
