BuySell Ads-Worth it?

I've been a blogger for two years now and have never tried BuySell Ads!

Was looking at a site in my niche that would show my 125 X 125 ad 40K times a mo for a flat fee of $12

I'm not sure about whether or not this is a good deal. The traffic seems legit, but was wondering if any of you have had any dealings with this company.

I have had experience there, and I will warn you to be careful and to find out where the traffic is coming from. For example, I once paid for one of these ads from a site with very high traffic numbers but I later discovered most of the traffic was coming from India and wasn't very targeted.

Like everything online and offline you have to carry out your due diligence. Having said that, at a $12 flat fee you don't have much to lose through trying it out and seeing if it converts for you. If it doesn't you can write it off as an experience.

As Joel said, it is better to check the source of the traffic. You have made your website and some wrong traffic can jeopardize your hard work.

Sounds too good to be true, normally is. You may see a .2% click through rate on average - which you may get around 80 clicks for 12 bucks in that instance. Which isnt bad, but can you cound on any conversions? Who knows.

I am too afraid to even try it. I may just have to man up and spend some money on good advertising. The DaniWeb Forums gets around 1.5 million pageviews per month has a good price...and we know there are all kinds of people visit forums!

Surely he's talking about the owner of the actual site he placed his banner on.

Had very little luck with Buy Sell Ads myself - poor converting traffic is one thing but fraud traffic another. What you can do is use a traffic verifying service like TrafficCake.com. Simply use set-up an account and use the unique URL they give you as the destination URL for your banner. It simply analyses the traffic as sends it on to your website. If the traffic is fraudulent (e.g. bots) then you've got the evidence you need to get your money back!

Warning Before You Buy Traffic – Make sure you’re using a fraud detection tool to flag any fraud/fake traffic. Fraud can be as high as 30%+ even with so called reputable ad-networks. Works on all media buys incl. banners, pops etc.

I used Google Adwords and Yahoo Adcenter and was not impressed at all. Adwords is very expensive and conversion rate was not good at all. I got 0 convert 50% of the time and still have to spend $60 to $70 a day. Anybody know any other good alternatives?

Flyfox, your post is in the wrong place.

Wade, don't listen to the comments turning down all of BSA. It is simply a medium through which to buy spots on other sites - so of course ALL sites will be different. If you want quality traffic, of course you will pay for it. Thats why some sites are $7 CPM and some $.20 cents.

Beginner advertisers get drawn into sites like BuySellAds because they see these huge impression counts. You need to remember that the standard click through rate on banners is tiny. So 40,000 impressions may only result in 5-8 clicks which then become quite expensive clicks.

The only way to know for sure is to test things yourself. But you do need to question why the site is offering that advertising space in the first place. Any smart person would monetize it much better than $12 for 40,000 impressions. But maybe that have tried that and couldn't monetize it at all... maybe they haven't. Who knows.

You can waste a lot of time on sites like BSA for very little return. The quantity of clicks you are going to get in most cases is very small. You are much better off looking for sites you want to advertise on and approaching them directly.

Well, I actually just bought two ads. One from the India site we were just talking about. Another that cost around 1,500 from DaniWeb(which I trust) the India site only cost me $12.

So far the India site has gotten me this:
    1,201 Impressions
    15 Clicks
    1.25% CTR

I was expecting a lot less. One conversion from this site so far too, which surprised me

For a 125x125? That's decent indeed, especially if you are competing vs other ads. I hear a lot of people complain because they get 0.04% CTR. I shoot for 1% and usually end up at 0.25-0.50, which is quite decent.

You just have to work out your stats and figure out if it turns out profitable for you.

So if I buy an Ad spot for $30 at 100k impressions and my product sells for $59. To atleast make a small profit, knowing that my site converts visitors to sales at 1% (not that low, just making it up), I'd need 0.10% CTR to make a $19 profit. Obviously that's not worth it, but if you know the details you can start buying ads profitably. (provided they are targeted!)

I've seen sites sell ad spots for $50 at 200k impressions, and another in the same niche with a larger spot for $150 at 3 million impressions. Which would you choose?

BSA is a reputable site, all I can advise you is test, test and more tests! Try to track your ad on a small scale first.

I spent $25 to test it out. Very poor results. I had less than a .1% click through rate on a fairly proven ad. Not sure if it was bad traffic or what but it is what it is.

The best way is visiting blogs and evaluating blogs carefully, decide if the blog is helpful to your products and services then go forward and test it, if it earned you money then you can buy more ad spaces...

i used them a few times with a diet product from maxbounty cpa. sorry to say.....no conversions......at all. but each case is different. the way to look at it is not to say you want 5000 conversions. think, i need 3 sales a day to make a $100 a day which is $3000 per month......not bad....keeps motivation up....

My clients have tried and successful enough to push more visitors. But to be honest, it's very difficult to know the conversion rate, since he also uses many other techniques to generate visitors.
At least, has seen a significant increase

this should put an end to any confusion - 2 weeks into the first month advertising various sized banners with various messages on 4 different BSA sites (all 4 sites within our niche):

180 clicks - 100% bounce rate - avg time on site 0 seconds

in other words 100% bot traffic that will NEVER and can NEVER buy anything

    $250 lesson learned

oh...and we used tracking strings on each banner but once we saw 100% bounce rate then looking for conversions would have been futile
