Does the Google Keyword tool sometimes report goofy numbers?

For something that's not particularly seasonal, and has no reason to have actually fluctatued like this, I'm seeing this for Feb/Avg:

480 / 9,900

It's not just for one search term; it's for a whole bunch in the same area. Also, if I run a couple of them through trends they look very steady. But of course, I can't actually tell how many that is because it will only give me the relative values in trends.

So anyway, the question is if you guys have seen the same thing, and if you have any sense if it's just Feb numbers haven't caught up or what.

Yes the Google Kw Tool predictions are not very accurate as in the end they are based on so many factors perculiar to your site (in SEM and Organically) as well as macro factors.

Use it more as a general indicator for a high traffic term or a low term, etc. relative to other terms in your space.

Yeah, the tool does report some pretty funky numbers from time to time. After all, they are just estimations.

If all you're using it for is to get keyword search volumes, then you're using it incorrectly. Instead use the search estimations to get an idea of the competition of a keyword that you'd like to use. Then use other methods to see if that keyword will be a good one or not.

That being said, don't discount the value of knowing the estimation of a search volume for a particular keyword. Nothing else will tell you it
