How Can I Hodt & Embed My Own Videos in my Wordpress Blogs?

I am doing a lot of tutorial videos fro my subscribers that I want to host myself and embed on any of my Wordpress sites.

In other words, the videos will be hosted on my server and will not involve any outside hosting sites like YouTube, etc.

What is the best way to do this?

Is there a WP plugin available or do I need to get outside software such as JW player, etc?

If you plan on any decent traffic, I wouldn't recommend hosting your videos on your own server...could be a recipe for disaster! Use an Amazon S3 account and pay the money for a good plugin like S3 FlowShield. I tried it many other ways and finally broke down and just bought S3 FlowShield...what a time saver!

Is a 7 stop method to embbed videos to your wordpress site

    1. The first thing u need is the video you that would like to upload to your server
    2. Select one of the following video players:

    a. JW Player: Download | LongTail Video | Home of the JW Player
    b. Flowplayer - Flash Video Player for the Web : Flowplayer
    c. Kaltura Video Platform
    d. Customize FLV player (flash video player) and streaming FLV player for web on graphical interfaces -Moyea Web Player
    e. FLV Player - Free Flash Video Player
    f. HTML5 Video Addon Allwebco | HTML 5 Video Movie Code

    3. Use your uploader for wordpress or a FTP client like filezilla and make sure that u know how u named your video file.

    4. Personalize your player

As each one of then, one more than other, provide you with the oportunity to costumize your video player so it match with your blogs theme. The easiest way to personalize your FLV player is by using this Generator FLV Player - Players - MAXI - Generator

    5. Next thing you want to do is to upload the video player to your server.

The FLV player is a flash file (SWF) that you should upload to your server as well, and is best to loaded to the main directory where your wordpress blog is, if not you will have problems with the URL.

If you are goin to upload tons of videos is better for you to create a folder and name it something like "flv-video".

    6. Find where to put it ..

Yes .. you will need to write a post or create a web page so you could embbed the video, as doing it without a good content is not a good strategy.

    7. Place the code for the FLV player in HTML mode

This is where you actually embed the video, you need to place the video player on your new post or web page, in HTML code. Here is an example :

    • <embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="460" height="340" src="http://flv-player.net/medias/player_flv_maxi.swf" flashvars="flv=http://seoptimise.com/videos/jk-wedding-entrance-dance.flv" title="JK Wedding Entrance Dance"></embed>

Well i hope it works for you ...... If anything im here to help --

Wow. This all seems like a very confusing process just to do a simple thing...

Thanks for all of the replies.

I wanted to clarify a few things.

    1. I'm not doing this for traffic. These are for tutorials and review videos strictly for my subscribers. I don't want outside traffic to these.

    2. I want to steer clear of YouTube as I just had an account terminated with no warning, and I can't take any chances right now as I might lose other accounts that are making me quite a bit every month. Luckily, the one I lost was newer and didn't amount to much anyway.

    Any other suggestions?

I'm telling you, just sign up for an Amazon S3 account where you only pay for what you use (mostly free the first year) and upload all your videos. From there, to avoid the complication as well as to add security to your files, grab a copy of S3 FlowShield for $97.

I tried it the hard way for about a year hoping to avoid paying for something, so I can tell you from experience that it's worth the money! One time and you have it to use from then on. They provide video tutorials that show you how to do it.

      That's my suggestion! Good luck!

Of all the suggestions I got, this one seems to make the most sense. I've also heard of several other video players, but maybe I can just learn from your experience and save myself a lot of hassle.

How hard is the embed process? Or is that what FlowShield is for?

Embedding is as easy as adding a shortcode to any page which you get with S3 FlowShield.

In my opinion, you can upload all the videos into your Youtube chanel hosting there, but very very important you clicked the (NOT LIST) box, then take the embed code entern into your site/page/post or just send the link to your subscribers in emails,so its only for your subscribers who you have given them the link to your youtebe chanel.

So after all, your site will still load fast, and hope this can work out for you!

    Best of luck!

      Easy Video Player.
      http://www.easyvideoplayer.com/

You install it on your server, link to your S3 account, and from the admin panel you can easily upload videos and grab an embed code to put anywhere on your site.

It's kinda like having your own personal youtube interface, but better.

S3 is really cheap and only charges you for what is used.

I agree with these guys, you definitely want to start using Amazon S3 to host your videos. As far as a player there are quite a few good ones out there. Just find what is best for you for what your needs are. I have my own player but before that I usually just used JW Player.

I've heard of JW, and a few others. So how do you get your own player?

If you use S3 FlowShield the player is already included. So you only need a player if you're going to do it all manually. Basically, buying a plugin like this just eliminates all the 'heavy lifting'. If I still had the manual code I'd give it to you, but I deleted my file once I bought the plugin. If I do happen to run across the steps for doing it manually, I'll let you know, but I'd still strongly recommend that you just spend the money on a good plugin...time or money.
