Google Maps? What's the secret!

Hey warriors!... So I have been wondering...

I look around "local" results for businesses in google and I always see businesses that show up in that "block" of local results with the map...

What's the secret to getting on that block?

It isnt really location, because there are always some businesses in NEIGHBORING cities that show up over the ones in the city...

Any thoughts? It's been bothering me for a while :-D

try getting some reviews. create a few google acounts and leave 5 stars and positive comments.

The secret isn't secret at all - it's just not well known.

OneEmpowered, I know how to list a business on there... My question is what is the secret to getting it listed HIGHER?

Getting ranked higher on maps is the same as getting listed higher on the first page of Google. SEO. Relevant title, keywords, description.

Here's a post I made a few weeks ago on a thread about the exact same subject:
Include your full street address, city, state and zip on every page on your site.

A year ago, it would help greatly if your zip code was the "main" one for downtown...Not sure how Google treats this today.

In your Google Local Account:

I think Google allows you to still add a coupon (use area related keywords)

Use the city name in your business name and description.

Link from your site to the local listing in your Google account...And be sure to have a few reviews.

Add keyword "titled" pics and videos to your Google Local Account listing.

In other words, add content for EVERY place you can in your Google Local Business Center and use basic SEO for all.

This is a bad idea. There are better ways to do this through friends and family and your other super-star cistomers.
