To weeble or not to weeble?

So what is the 411 on Weebly? I love the ease of use and would really like to build my website there. Will it really matter where I build my site, as long as the content is good? Do you think I won't be able to make money on my website using them? Thanks!

Its doesn't matter where you build your site. However, you will not own your site. Weebly will. If they decide to take your site down for any reason. They have every right to do so. So keep this in mind. You don't want to build a long term business off it.

It doesn't seem so risky to use Weebly for a longterm business- if you're doing honest business and paying your hosting bills, why would they take down your website?

One advantage is that the page elements are designed by pros. Why is that important? Because people make split-second judgments about websites based on how they look. It's good to know that a pro designed the basic framework of your website, even if you are choosing the colors, images etc.

I think it's more affordable to buy your own domain name from godaddy or somebody else (be sure to search Google for coupon codes) than to buy a domain name directly from Weebly.

You can find a lot of free guides about Word press - most hosting companies has tutorials, or else visit YouTube.

To get familiar with WP you can start up a free blog at Wordpress.com and start playing around. - Good luck :-)

If you're in this for the long run, just get a domain and hosting. You'll own it and won't have to worry about appeasing the Weebly gods.

  • Listen to the guys with experience. Get your own hosting and put your site there. You can get hosting for less than $100 a year and many hosting companies have scripts that are basically one button installs. I would recommend using Wordpress for the site. Bluehost and Hostgator both have one button install scripts for it.

Do you think they had experience of hosting at Weebly? Maybe so, but my guess was "not". I have some sites which are now in their 4th successful year of hosting there, though.

There's been a lot of misinformation in this thread. (Some of it's actually been deleted, now).

Weebly is "your own hosting". It's a proper, commercial host, just like Hostgator or JustHost or whatever else, but with its own site-builder included, for people who want that service. And it's a good and professional one.

At Weebly, you can get it for $47.88 for a year ("Weebly Pro" is $3.99 per month if pre-paid for a year).

Without knowing anything about it, or its putative owner? Wordpress is just an automatic solution to you, and everything else is a mistake, by definition - is that how it goes?!? Well, I have news for you: some of us (including some who are very successful, own big businesses and earn plenty of money every month), for quite a variety of different reasons, choose not to use Wordpress. "Shock horror"! :p

There's a huge amount of misinformation about Weebly.

Specifically, some people imagine that because Weebly also has a "free starter-pack" in which they offer you the facility to host 2 sites there without payment, that even people using them as a paid host somehow "don't own their own sites". Fortunately, it isn't true, as anyone looking at Weebly's Terms Of Service can see for themselves.

You can register a domain-name (at Namecheap, or wherever - not through Weebly, obviously, as nobody should register and host in the same place) and host it at Weebly just like you can register at Namecheap and host at Hostgator (I do both, myself).

Thank you so much for your message and this reply! I have seen a lot of your posts and have so much respect for the information you provide. I was excited to actually see you respond to my post! lol The fact that you back up Weebly says a lot, so I will happily use them now. Thanks again!
