I've had it with Panda and EMD's.

I only now bought the domain sloshbucket just because I like the name (marketability and niche notwithstanding). But you have to admit, the name is brandable.

A sloshbucket is a drink made by mixing equal parts of whiskey, vodka, gin, rum and teqila in a giant bucket and mixing it with an old boot.

I'm actually quite surprised it hadn't been snatched up by anyone already. I'm only going to SEO the articles, integrate affiliates and adsense, and watch what happens.

Any ideas on developing a specific niche theme? Or should I keep the articles generic across the whole social Internet marketplace?

My goal is to just be me and get paid doing so.

Just focus on good quality content that users will enjoy, and you will see success. Goodluck!

An EMD refers to an Exact Match Domain where the name matches exactly the searched keyword you are trying to optimize the website for.

Most .com EMD's for any common product or service you can possibly think of have been been scooped up long ago or at least contain someone else's trademark or other identifying words in them.

For example, when I was optimizing for the searched keyword phrase "best juicer for the money" I bought the (now expired) bestjuicerforthemoney EMD name.

I gotta correct you on this first: There's not even close to done. I bought 9 last night with barely a 2nd thought. You're just not researching your keywords carefully enough.

Outside of that, you're following one of my gameplans. I've told the story in a few threads here, but I picked "jarycu" and "jarycu.com" simply because I could brand it. (It's a combination of my first, middle, and last names.) I've had the domain for...18 months now I think...and there are something like 14K references to my "jarycu" if you were to Google it.

        Guess what?

They ALL point back to me. My site gets visitors every single day from places I've never heard of. I don't do that much backlinking, and I don't have it connected to anything but my article company.

I saw your site. Good example of proof of concept that non-EMD names do work if you work the articles and SEO.

It also helps keep the Google Adsense team happy.

...except I break every rule in the book on that site. I have yet to try to rank it for anything, to write an article over 1000 words, or to target a single keyword. I haven't done any article syndication whatsoever. Hell, for that matter, the only thing I've done correctly is grabbing affiliate links for the products I believe in and then cloaked them with Pretty Link.

As far as I can, that site doesn't rank for anything but it magically gets traffic every single day, and not all of it from the WF.

I here you. I started out with emd's and still have a few, but the days of the 5-7 page website are long gone. Th only emd's I have left are ones that can be expanded beyond what my original intent was. Say "bestbluewidgets.com" .

Yeah, I have a couple of those, but I prefer to build a brand name.

There are also a TON of EMDs that appear on the drop lists daily if you filter the list right, and look for certain keywords.

A good goal. I remember creating a website just out of the passion I had for the niche... and you know what? It ranked for a popular keyword and I didn't do a damn thing in terms of SEO--just created solid, entertaining content!

That said, I also have a slew of EMD that are still seeing success, even post Panda. In fact, I just launched a website earlier this month and with directory links only ranked it on page 2 within two weeks. It's an EMD for a keyword that gets 12,100 [exact] monthly searches.

Sometimes, the less complicated you make something, the easier it becomes!

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

      That's it in a nutshell.

I'm going to think about what I will do with the site but I know that it will have to include solid entertaining content.

My challenge, personally, is to try to do that by thinking outside the box. I want people to visit my site because of the strange but lyrical sounding name, and see a home page that tries it's best to look like something you only experience offline.

I want to make a redirect for smartphone users (with a non-redirecting link back to the regular homepage), and add everything under the sun that smartphone users are looking for (maps, best restaurants in town, local festival or other events, best shopping, current news, YouTube videos, etc.)

Sloshbucket is going to be a bucket of slosh. Where you go when you are tired of searching.

Don't beat yourself up over EMD's and Panda and Aligator updates. Keep marketing, find new ways to make money and get traffic, and keep your head high. Consider optimizing for Yahoo and Bing.
