Help with Blog Posts

So I have a blog on my website for a local brick and morter company. Like most blogs all kinds of spam posts await moderation. I am getting visitors but not many people have posted actual comments relating to the articles.

Before I approve these spam posts...I change anything and everything....their name from Buy Diet Pills to something normal...take out all their links...and type a normal sounding comment.

So I now have a steady stream of comments and the blog seems better to me with comments loaded with keywords and nice things about the company and its products. My thinking was all these posts come from different IP addresses and is a normal random pattern (other than me editing the words) and could help bring in more traffic or at least help me convert web traffic into appointments into sales.

So my question is - Does this give me any benefit (other than making me feel better)

    Not really. In my opinion, the time you are spending changing the comments could be spent creating better content and getting it out to the social sites. If you do this right, you will get real comments over time. In addition, loading them with keywords could throw up red flags for google.

      I have to agree with Benjamin on this. If you don't like the comments, just don't approve them and delete them and spend your time on more useful things like writing good and unique content, which will bring more visitors to your blog - visitors that will probably comment on these posts.

    I think changing people comment - besides spams - even to make it sounds 'normal' is not ethical. If you don't like the comment, send it to trash. If you like it, don't make any change and approve it. Comment back on their blogs and on other blogs then you'll get the benefits.

    I personally think having comments helps. I know that a number of searchers looking for info on products actually read them Although I might modify a comment if someone goes off on a tangent about something totally unrelated to the topic on the page which they are posting, I don't make up fake names and all that stuff. Once your traffic goes up, people will begin to leave relevant comments. It also has to do with the popularity of the product.

    Dude observe the blogs from the big companies.
    I can say one example, Nikon D5100.
    this camera has a very good reputation. But there are some problems too. I got the information from only their official blog. That's the reason my trust and believe for Nikon is risen.
    So I think there is no need to change the comment of others.
    just remove the spams.

      Actually some spammy posts may be done by robots - I had a bad experience with that in the past. Do you use any captcha or antispam tool?

        Might feel useful for visitors to see comments but carries no weight with Google, which IMO would be a better partner.

    You have to provoke comments. You even have to ask for them to comment: What do you think? Share your thoughts!

    There's an old saying in talk radio: You don't get many callers talking about sunshine and puppies.

    That's why you hear talk shows doing the same old junk over and over because it generates buzz and talk. In fact, now some in digital media have rebranded this approach as something called "buzz marketing" although I don't think radio can take all the credit. After all, giving people something to talk about has been a goal of marketers probably before even radio - heck, that's where WoM comes from, right?

    Thanks everyone! I did not think it had any ranking value...just value to people reading the blog.

    Just for the record I only do this to spam posts not to legit posters. And it only takes a few min.
