Default newbie questions

I am a newbie to IM .....I have a digital product that I would like to persue blog owners and other website owners for banner advertising. My thought is they will place the banner ad on their site to bring traffic to my site and in return any sales that are made we will split the profits 50/50. I will take care of all the customer support. Considering all they have to do is collect checks....my questions are.....

1.Does this seem like a fair deal? Would you do it?
2. What Affiliate Manager should I use so we both can track sales made from their site.

PS: My digital product I created is not just an Ebook. Its a training kit for my entertainment/career niche with (flash files,PDF's,audio and video) ... and its not a make money fast or IM training kit.

I think it is a fair deal to all webmasters. If I could have my own website yes I would do it but right now I am planning to make one in order to traffic more banner exchanges. I think you must use clickbank it gives you a 50/50 deal with webmasters.

Unless you want to set up your own affiliate program, I would go with Clickbank. 50% is nice but what price will you charge for the product?

I would go as high as 75% to affiliates and have a nice, solid backend set up to upsell and crosssell as well as to educate the purchaser on how to effectively use what they bought.

Look up webrings of sites in the same/similar niche to yours.

Join the webring and/or forum and make yourself known.

Any whizbang sites you see, then you can politely contact their support or webmaster with your proposal.

It's going to take a bit to get off the ground but the more traffic that comes, the more webmasters you will get with backlinks/affiliates of your product(s)

I would suggest that you also start a blog and join others of same niche who have blogs so you can feed off each other.

Cross-promotion never hurt...it brings in money for you also

Clickbank ripping of affiliates - Someone filing charges against clickbank

That's a link to a thread about clickbank problems.

Other options to clickbank are paydotcom.com and E-junkie. E-junkie doesn't have as many affiliates as clickbank, but you don't pay them a percentage of your sale.

You can host 10 products (up to 50 mb) for $5 a month with no limits on bandwidth, no transaction fees or limits.

There are other choices too. Most people go with clickbank because of their large pool of affiliates, but if you plan to recruit your own affiliates you might check out other options. Some people get a lot of affiliates easily with clickbank, but eventually everyone has to recruit their own.

50% is fair but what's your price.

Going with a higher percentage like 75% or more can accelerate sales but you should be looking to get your backend set up quickly.

From what you've said, maybe a good option would be to set up your own affiliate program with the Clickbank. You would have to figure out what you what kind of percentage you would be willing to offer your customers as well, if you're going to offer 50% to affiliates, make sure you have a decent price to benefit from. You always want to offer and incentive to your affiliates, so maybe you might need to offer a higher percentage and then counter this with a one time offer on your backend to make a profit. Just an idea, see how you go!

just as someone that is sort of in the web design/development business, i have a counter question to ask you: when was the last time you clicked on a BANNER AD?

do you really think that you'll get any traffic from those? and usually people pay several cents for clicks on their banners... you can do what thou wilt as far as I'm concerned... just taught you'd like to know this...

Thanks for your post Joshua, I've had some trouble in the past with clickbank and that helps me sort a few things out! I think in the thread someone has mentioned that they are taking legal action against clickbank for similar reasons! Need to stay on top of it to make sure you're getting your commissions! Good thread!

If you're looking at setting up a clickbank affliate program its typically expected that you need to offer at least a 50% sale inclustion of what your earning per sale with your affilates. If you offer a high incentive with your affliate product, you can almost guarantee that affliates will be more than happy to assist you in promoting your product! This would also give you a great opportunity for cross promotional methods with other products you may have as well!
