I have about 60 websites, most of which are niche blogs. All of them are making money, although some only make about $20 per month, while others make hundreds of dollars a month.

The reason I keep the sites that are only making $20 per month is because there is a profit there and there is no upkeep on them.

The majority of my sites are micro niche sites, and I do not use them to funnel traffic, they all make money on there own.

I have over 100 websites. Nearly half of them aren't active (and, as a result, don't rank well at Google, except for really longtail keywords), or they're only to support books I've written. The latter are usually just a few informational pages so people find (and buy) my books at Amazon.com, etc.

A couple of my websites are huge, with over 500 unique articles that I wrote, personally. They're overgrown hobby sites, and I often update them with great, juicy, curated content. One is a seasonal site (Halloween) that earns money all year long from a variety of affiliate programs plus -- during late August through mid-November -- AdSense ads in the sidebar.

If I could start all over again, I'd focus on just a few (under 20) websites and make each of them very deep and rich with articles and curated content, turning them into true, one-stop authority sites. And, instead of writing quite so many original articles for the huge sites, I'd write them as chapters for a series of books.

With the volume of sites I have now, I can't maintain them all and I can't justify the expense of quality outsourced help. So, I'm planning to sell about 50 of my sites in the near future, and focus on the ones I like and the ones that are clearly an important part of my business model.

I've tried a variety of business models and, for me, writing and selling books is easily my best option. (But, of course, I'm a writer. That business model might not work for someone who isn't comfortable writing books.)

Second-best are my Amazon affiliate sites, especially seasonal (holiday) websites featuring holiday-specific products.

For SEO, I rely on incoming links from free sites, etc., at places like Blogger, Squidoo, and so on. I also nurture friendships at Facebook and Twitter, and... well, they seem to like me and either buy my products or click on my links, and often share my URLs.

Other people will tell you to build a list. In most cases, they're probably right. I tried lists, and -- for my eclectic niches -- they didn't work well. I've done better with a Feedburner.com form in my sidebars, and people receive emails whenever I add fresh content to the site where they signed up.

I try to add one review per day to each site. The system I use allows me to bang out very good reviews in no more than 15 minutes per review so I only spend an hour or two per day on my sites.

I am interested as to why you are asking this question. For me it is a case of quality over quantity - but once you get the quality, and if you have the right system, then there is no reason why you can't increase the quantity of the quality sites. There is no point in producing more quantity if it is not good quality.

I have many sites - some for traffic, some for affiliate programs and some for product/ service businesses I run. I also have hobby sites.

A couple of them are much more profitable than the rest but I still keep the others because they require minimal upkeep and do make me money.

It all comes down to time and the future, now take this into consideration, regardless of what you aim to do, you want your website to rank in the top 3 for keywords, from my experience authority sites are the way forward, so short term try the 100 sites in 100 different keywords then once you have wasted about year alot of money, try the pro approach - content is king, want to make money, write about something you have an interest about and have knowledge on.

build a list and only affiliate products / advertising that you have tested and would buy for your self.

I have close to 50 sites....40 sites are active and run the gamut from amazon to Clickbank to offline marketing

The others have been inactive for some time and Im too stubborn to let them expire as I have delusions of "site flipping" grandeur.

    I own 4.

I'm on the side of building authority sites ranking for multiple keywords with over 100 posts.
Why build a site to rank for 1 keyword when you can rank for 100s?

I posses hosting through godaddy where I host multiple sites, nearby 12 which are mostly related to my business & of my clients.

My business sites are well made according to my needs that are enough for making good money on monthly basis & I use lot more IM concepts in each of them to generate traffic as well as revenue.

I have several sites but it doesn't matter if you have a hundred sites or just a single site. The point is any site that's costing you money to maintain must have a return of investment.

I own 5 sites (blogs) and one blahblah.blogspot.com (my pet project).

Only my pet project is making very little amazon and adsense money at the time.

My "commercial" sites - I host on fastwebhost.com - 1.99/mo. To me that's cheap. They have all the wordpress bells and whistles, php, mysql, unlimited traffic. (Man, I should be promoting that! )

Two of the "commercial" sites are hosted on blogger for free; that works for me for now. Plus, these get indexed faster because G. owns blogger.

I stretched myself too thin, for once - don't have time to post regularly. Plus, domain names were sort of haphazard, as a result of various IM courses taken, but not implemented correctly.

But, outside of one EMD that is ranking on page #1 for a S$tty keyword, none of the sites are ranking so far, which is pretty discouraging.

I have owned these since May 2012.

About 18 months ago I owned well over 150 adsense / amazon micro-niche sites.

Was doing $1-5/week from each of them roughly, some more, some less.

In the end I let to domains expire because it wasn't a stable, viable long term business model.

Making money for someone else is a waste of time. Put the effort in and create the product yourself and then get other people (affiliates) to spend the time generating the sales for you.
