How Should I Go About Getting People To Do A Survey?

Hi Warriors!

I've just finished a report that I'm about to release as a WSO in the next week or so. It will be a free WSO and I hope to get the subscribers to do a survey and I will likely create a paid product tailored to those subscribers needs from the info I get.

I'm just unsure of how or when I should present the survey, here are a few ideas I had for linking to the survey...

1) Put a link to it in the last page of the free report asking the readers to go and complete it in exchange for another gift

2) Have the link on the download page for the free report

3) After they opt in for the report, send them directly to the survey (instead of a confirmation page I could remind them at the end of the survey to go and open their confirmation email, though I think this one could be seen as having them jump through too many hoops for a free report)

4) Just have it in the follow up sequence about a week or 2 down the line after delivering more content via email

What are your thoughts? Has anyone here ever ran a survey to their list? What is the best way to do it?

I do link to a survey page in the first follow up email after they subscribe.

It's a page with an "about me" video and at the end, there's a CTA for the survey with a bonus offer if they complete.

I also use Wufoo forms so that way, I can embed surveys on my blog rather than linking to another page.

I actually meant to ask that too, Tony. About when in the email sequence to ask them to do the survey. I thought about doing it right away in the first follow up, so it's good to hear you say that.

Wufoo looks pretty neat, but right now I'm using Google Docs. I know it's not fancy, but it gets the job done and gathers the info in a spreadsheet.

      Thanks

I would suggest that you offer the survey as soon as possible after they get the free report. And make sure you offer them some type of bonus for taking the survey.

I would not want to wait for two weeks because they may lose interest in you and the report you offered them in the first place.

People online seem to have a very short attention span when it comes to things like this. So you may want to hit them up with the survey asap.

I second that on getting the survey asap before they lose interest or forget about your initial gift (Which should be awesome btw) and your incentive for the survey should be even more awesome.

Also when you give people surveys, give them space to WRITE and not just click on checkboxes with pre-arranged answers.

The reason is that when you let people talk in their own words about their frustrations, fears, desires, and hopes, you will understand them much better not only to create a product to help them (and thus get loyal customers for life)... you will also know what you need to talk to them about in your sales copy. Their exact words can be used to really reach them on an emotional level.

Awesome! I thought getting the survey to them ASAP would be the most effective, but I always like to hear what the Warriors have to say.

I do have an awesome interview that I plan to offer as an incentive for doing the survey, so I think it'll get a good response.

I'll keep your point about giving them space to write in mind when I create the survey, it makes a lot of sense.

Thanks again for the help, and any further suggestions are welcome.

After they opt in and get your free product you should send them some more cool free stuff for a further few days and then ask them to help you out with the survey.

Or just offer them money, that always works.
