article marketing sites

Much has been said in the past about article marketing and the various sites that accept articles. Ezinearticles seems to be the favoured one. I have posted on there, and on Articlesbase, without getting very many visitors. Just today I posted some articles on Ideamarketers. I had 23 hits in the first half hour on this website; tons more than I ever got for the other two. Has anyone else tried them?

Beverley, for many of us, the goal in posting to sites like EZA or GoArticles is not direct traffic from those sites. There was a day when that was effective, but that day was about five years ago.

The reason to post articles in article directory sites is to find outlets (other sites, ezines, etc.) willing to publish the articles you make available. In other words, to put your content in front of people you may not be able to reach any other way, people already interested in your subject, and do it with the tacit endorsement of the site owner or publisher.

When I have a new article, it gets published to the following (in order)

    > One of my own sites. Nowhere else until indexed.
    > My private list of publishers who have either asked or consented to being informed when I have new content available.
    > Last, the article gets placed on a directory (usually EZA) for passive syndication and whatever scraps of traffic might come along.

What do you do when one big site wants their very own unpublished-anywhere-else article?

Then I have a decision to make. Just because the site is big doesn't mean I'm going to give them what they ask for. On the other hand, if I have a relationship of some kind with the publisher, or I want one, I may do a one-time one-off article. Or if the site is targeted enough to make me believe I'll get significant rewards (traffic and/or reputation), I'll make the exception.

        It doesn't happen very often.

        100 visitors from 10 sites, 1 article = 1,000 visitors, 1 article

        1,000 visitors from 1 site, 1 article = 1,000 visitors, 1 article

Either the math or the 'soft' benefits have to be right.
