Writer trying to make money. How?

Hey guys,

I have been wanting to make money online for awhile now and i have come to the conclusion that writing may be the best fit for me. The only problem is, how can I get paid to write? Do you know any websites that may be helpful. I'm from Ireland. I have a few gigs up on Fiverr and I have sold some. I want to be making more then the 10 euro that I am currently making by writing online.

      I would look on oDesk but you do have to be careful on there that you apply to only the jobs that pay well. You can also put up an ad on the Warrior for Hire section of this website. It will cost you about $20 but you should be able to find some writing work there. You can also put up an ad on Craigslist offering your services and that is completely free.

    Also, have you considered ghost writing? It requires more work, but if your skills are good you can make more money.

    Do you mean €10 a day? There are many ways to increase your earnings.
    1. Write more
    2. Charge more per article
    3. Write once, sell many copies of it (PLR)
    4. Team up with web developer, write for them for the share of profits.

    Options 1 and 2 have limits, obviously, since there are only 24 hours a day and there a certain amount that you can charge. Although some charge more than $100 per article, it might be difficult to find clients.
    Option 3 may also have it's limits since people probably won't buy if you sell unlimited copies of article because they don't want overused content.

    What I can offer to you is this. You write content for my website, and receive the share of profits what that page generates for as long as it stays up. It might be a few cents per month or a few bucks a day. Obviously it depends on content. If needed I can pay upfront. Let me know if you are interested. I do the niche research and promotion of website, you just write the content.

    Thank for the response guys. I have heard about sites like odesk but I am worried that you cant really earn much from them. Maybe I'll just give it and go and hope for the best!

      I've been around working in odesk but currently I am pausing my writing gigs there as the quality of available works are declining. Still, it's worth a try.

    I would second the suggestion to run your own ad in the Warriors for Hire section of this forum. Then link to the ad in your signature. Post links to sample articles and resist the urge to price yourself too low.

    What methods are you currently using to make your €10? Can those be expanded? Can you charge more? Do more?

    What is your income goal? "More than €10" is not a goal. Set a specific number. Focus on it. Stay committed to achieving it until you reach it. Once you get close to reaching that number, set a new goal.

    You really don't give a lot of information in your post, so it's hard to give a good answer.

    If you are talking about your Fiverr gig, then you may want to change your description. You should use a "friendlier" image (nothing personal, but looking happy and/or professional helps). You also need to word it in a way that appeals to your potential customers. There are also some basic errors that need to be corrected.

    Like I said, it's nothing personal, but I wouldn't purchase articles from you based on your Fiverr description.

    Both my Written And Speaking English are fluent.
    If you mention being from Ireland to show that you are a native English speaker, then you don't need this line at all. However, as it is written now, you are actually proving that you are NOT fluent. You need to use the word "spoken", not "speaking". And "written" and "spoken" should not be capitalized.

    Yes, you do. Even the best writers MAKE the mistakes. The trick is that they catch those mistakes in the proofreading process.

    Based on the above, your grammar is okay, but not great.

    My thought would be, "You can't even capitalize the word "I", so why should you write for me?"

    As you can see, there are a lot of problems, all of which can be fixed. HOWEVER, if this is the way you write, then I would strongly suggest you hone your skills before trying to sell your writing services.

      Yes, I can see some of the mistakes I made. I was telling you that I'm from Ireland because a lot of the sites for writers are for Americans only. Just trying to narrow it down a little.

        It's not that you made a few mistakes, it's that you made 5 or 6 mistakes in the space of 36 words. That won't instill confidence in your potential clients.

        If they have the credentials to be an electrician, then I suppose they would already have an interest in it. But what if they only have an interest in it, but aren't qualified?

        No, but I definitely would NOT hire a writer who claimed their OK grammar was great. But you don't have to waste space telling people you have good grammar, just show them with the other words in your description.

        Here on the WF and other related Internet Marketing forums are your best bet for picking up article work if that is what you're after.

        Yes you'll probably have to start off writing for a low value, but you'll build your reputation by supplying quality articles and then your clients will be willing to pay a bit more.

        It costs $20 to post in the Warrior For Hire thread but is well worth it. Just make sure that your advert is compelling and you have lots of examples of your work.

      Constant Content is a good outlet to put your writing up for sale, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you had some free time. It doesn't work like the "pay per project" freelance writing sites do.

      Sure, articles can sell for $25 to $50 or more. As a writer, you set the price. Problem is, most people don't realize the following:

      - Constant Content takes roughly 30% off of your sale price. That $25 article sale puts $17.50 in your pocket. Sure, you're still making money, but it's something you need to factor in.

      - You need to write a considerable amount of content at first to "get the wheels spinning".

      - The approval process is rigerous if you aren't careful. Make a small mistake a few times and you could get booted. Happens more frequently than you might think.

      - You don't get paid unless you sell an article. You could write 100 articles and have 70 sit there for months on end, never selling and never earning you money.

      Like I said, Constant Content is alright for someone who has some free time on their hands and wants to get rid of some articles, but I wouldn't use it exclusively. Plus, any clients you might get for a direct order HAVE to go through Constant Content and they STILL take out a 30% commission on that.

      Instead of having someone earn money off of your hard work, take advantage of freelance sites and places like the "Warriors for Hire" section here and BUILD YOUR OWN LIST of clientele. That way, you can stand a fighting chance to earn a decent amount of money, rather than work for pennies and struggle to survive.

    If the amount of work you're getting in a day isn't enough, iWriter and Textbroker are good places to start. They don't pay a lot and some clients will reject articles for no reason, but you don't have to bid on jobs and wait to get hired. That means you can get a steady stream of articles to write. When you get some practice, you can build your portfolio and set up a Warrior For Hire ad.

    Definitely look into creating PLR, blogging, and other ways to make residual income on what you write. These are solutions that will be the most lucrative for you in the long run.

    It is impressive that you could sell some gigs at Fiverr. I have tried over there with little success.

    In fact, I am facing the same situation.

    I bid for projects at oDesk and elance. However, I had little luck in finding good clients. Yes; I get personal messages from clients who offer $1.00 for 500 words. At the present time, I require at least a minimum of $4.00 for 500 words (I am already working with someone who pays me $3.50 for 500 words).

    I write product reviews which pay better than articles in a niche. It does involve doing research and takes time but is more fulfilling for me.

    You can submit unique articles to various sites that pay for content but there are not many that pay well. iWriter pays according to defined tiers but it has to be approved by the person who ordered the article.

    Go in business for yourself instead of writing for other companies. You will make more money if you started offering your own writing services. If you can write high quality articles then you can command a higher price. There's always a need for content writers.

    As you have seen, it's always a good idea to represent your talent in the best light. I would recommend you develop a short personal profile and a simple website or even a Facebook page. Then develop your skills and an inventory of articles that show people you can produce great content. Start up a gallery of articles in EzineArticles.com that you can reference. BTW you can post those articles to your own website first and then out to EA. Those articles, if interesting and well written will be syndicated to other sites further expanding your reach.

    Here's an idea to get you started building a reputation. There are plenty of people looking for product reviews for electronics, toys, games, etc. Write a few of those and post to your own website under Samples..Product Reviews. Then create a signature like: Do you need product reviews written? Check out these examples of my work and check out my starter pack deal...

    Something like that.

    vworker is a great site that nobody has mentioned. I have done a lot of work from there. The more sites you register with, the more chance you have of getting work.
    I know tons of sites that advertise jobs but you have to be persistent in applying because there is a lot of competition as well. Work on honing your skills and you'll make more money too.

    Do you have any samples of your writing somewhere that I can view? I occasionally need to outsource some projects when I get too swamped and I'm always looking for new writers to outsource to.

    I would definitely recommend a Warrior for Hire Thread. That's how I got started and I could barely keep up with the orders.

    Do a google search on freelance writing sites, and join all of them and build your portfolio. You will still have to market your services in the "online world" also - so dont think that freelance sites is the end.

    Please don't take this the wrong way. But if you're a writer, be a writer all the time. Your post, for example... Professionals always capitalize words like "I." Euro should also be capitalized. The word then should be than. That's three mistakes inside a very short paragraph. Not very impressive.

    People pay attention to what you post and as a writer you seem to be pretty sloppy. If I were looking for someone I'd pass you right by.

    Am I being picky? Of course. I want the most value for my money if I'm hiring someone and it doesn't look like you know or care about delivering value. I'm not attacking you, I'm trying to help. Again, if you're a writer, be a writer all the time. Good luck.

            I didn't know that. Perhaps you could find a way to re-word it so a hyphen isn't needed.

    I’m a writer myself and I’m not native. Still I manage to write well; most of my clients are quite happy with my work. What I do when it comes to grammatical mistakes and sloppy words; I read them loud. It’s really difficult to detect your own mistakes but reading loud helps a lot. On top of this I use two grammar checking tools like The “Ginger” and MS Word’s own spell & grammar checker.



    And last but not least, I revise them once again after a few hours, this time I easily find what to edit before final delivery. Hope this helps.

The first months will be tough but once you get your first feedback, things will be easier. Aside from writing, clients can ask you to manage their blogs and web 2.0 sites. That way, you'll learn a lot of new things like on-page SEO and backlinking than can help you demand a higher pay in the future.
