Hello I have a domain that would be very good to promote chinese online shopping, I mean sites like Amazon, etc. The question is, would it be profitable?

And another question is whether this should be written in chinese or just in english would be ok?

The Chinese market? Chinese online shopping? I think your questions are really vague. What specifically are you asking?

Selling stuff from China? Selling to Chinese people?

Not sure. I think the main thing you need to look at is how many Chinese are actually on the Internet and how much do they have to spend. I haven't looked at such numbers in a long time. Could be there are enough people there with money.

Though I'd guess the majority of the population makes enough to eat and have a place to live and not a lot left over. If there's a large enough sector with discretionary income, the next step is to find out what they're buying. It's just like any other market. Your due diligence has to be more than just asking here unless you want to waste a lot of time, effort and money. Good luck.

Chinese market is huge and yes there are great opportunities in this market.

    1. Your site should be in Chinese if that is the market your going after.

    2. Will your site be profitable? Like Travlinguy said you need to expand on your question so people can try to help.

Want to sell something to Chinese people online? Since they already have almost everything, one product that will be a top seller is English learning program or software. I can only tell based on experience...

Chinese eCommerce market is controlled almost completely by TaoBao. I have a couple decent sites, by my taobao accounts make 100 times more sales (even at higher prices) than my normal sites.

Silas Hart, could you explain it more detailed? I didn't understand very well, what is taobao? do you have chinese based sites? if so, written in english, chinese?

I don't plan to sell own products, just informative site, like to show better places where to buy, etc and there insert affiliate links of amazon, ebay and similar, do you think is good idea?

China market is still growing up. So it has potential. You need to calculate profits from your project and check if it will be profitable or not. As Silas Hart said there is already huge competition so it will be hard to make something big.

Chinese very rarely buy from amazon or ebay, you would have to look at becoming a affiliate for a Chinese site such as Taobao.com or Chinadrtv.com

Yes, Chinese market is huge, but this market are working in a different frequency than WWW market, there are still a lots of 'under current' types of restrictions and regulations in dealing business online.
FYI, Facebook was banned there...due to...

Taobao.com is a Chinese shopping site owned by Alibaba.com. There are countless sellers selling anything from male enhancement pills, medicines, garments, to TVs and refrigerator. In fact anything you can think of. Amazon China is also open but if you are a foreigner, getting paid is quite tricky. Payment by check is virtually out of question. To present a check to the bank is a pain in the ass. To open a check you must have a corporate account and own a password generator and checks must be written in COMPLEX Chinese WORDS not the stand Chinese we know. I know that because I live and do business in China for more than 10 years.

To become an Amazon associate you must provide them with your local second generation identity card and local bank account because Amazon need to deduct all taxes due to the government before depositing the balance into your bank account in China.

People buy from Taobao because of the cut throat price. Taobao is a site that many people trust and is also a site where many people don't trust. The most lucrative items have being Apple iPhones and iPad or very cheap local mobile phones, shoes, garments. Many sellers sell faked products including faked iphones.

Another group of buyers are those well off and the filthy rich. These people don't trust Taobao. Those who know buy from foreign sites or rush to Singapore, Hongkong where they know sell genuine LV bags and luxurious ladies accessories. Money is not an issue, what is on their mind is where can they get the latest luxurious items to show-off. I sold almost 100 ipads simply because business people want to please his customers by bribing them with the newest crazy stuffs that everybody is talking about.

The rich then want to please their numerous girlfriends, 2nd wife, 3rd wife, 4th wife (all unofficial of course). So they ask for more ipads.....

Selling high end can really make money fast if you know how. The 100 ipads I sold all without any website but only from 1 client of mine. I ordered from Apple USA, they then shipped from Hongkong (products released from Shenzheng) to USA, then reshipped to China again! They can't wait for 1 month for the product to be officially sold in China because by then they will not be among the first to own an ipad, which became meaningless they said. They simply don't want to be left behind, they want to be the first to show-off what they have and afford. This is the mentality of Chinese people, especially the rich. Great opportunity if you care to research.

      Speaking from experience:

China is not a quick solution - it's a quagmire of "learning opportunities." this is because it has a unique cultural history and did not benefit from western civilization until only recently. These differences go deep.

      Keeping it simple:

For one thing, Mainland Chinese surf with Baidu - not Google - and Baidu is a cheap imitation in which rank is conferred with payola, not demand.

Chinese websites are different - sometimes cluttered and flashy (like a 12 year old girl's Myspace page?).

Chinese sourcing is an issue rife with counterfeit, and bait and switch practices. Then you also have to deal with possible customs issues. If you can find a partner who gives you what you paid for and expected - you are ahead of the game.

Chinese internet is slower, highly monitored, and very limited in terms of global social media marketing tools. Then again, it's always a good idea to find out what the people of different countries prefer, it's often not Twitter and Facebook.

Use Mandarin and sprinkle it lightly with simple English for a "status effect." I'm speaking about what Chinese markets respond to, not what is ideal.

You might partner up with a local who understands the nuances better - but be very careful about their "ethic." A cash-economy like China's creates a very different set of expectations and norms, than what you may be used to.

I'll leave you with a final bit of China business advice: don't invest anything you aren't prepared to lose.

      Good luck!
