Voice over work anybody?

Anybody doing audio/voice over work and having any success?

I've got a friend at my "day job" who is also a professional voice over artist. We were talking the other day and the subject came up about my doing some voice over work.

I know some service providers do video and audio work as well as copy writing and ghost writing. I used to work in radio so I'm no stranger to production work. Thinking that this would be a good addition to writing but thought that I would check here to see what success others are having.

Thanks

    It's a very competitive business.

I used to do some for IM type services but then fiverr came along and a lot of people go there now to get voiceovers.

I've also been on the other end of looking for a voiceover artist for my videos and there is sooo much choice out there I can't imagine these guys get a whole lot of work.

Start selling on fiverr, look at what the "top seller" or "level 2" members are doing and copy their strategy. i.e. a single gig will buy 1 min of audio, and see what "extras" they are selling?

Competition will be tough to begin with, but once you have a portfolio set up a blog and just start thinking like a freelancer rather than an employee.

I would 'test the waters' and get your feet wet a bit.

Do a few free samples for people and try to get the ball rolling on fiverr. I know this is the bottom end of the market with limited profitability but it will let you get a taste for things before commiting to a bigger venture.

Here's what people I know have done successfully. Make an audio or video recording and post it as a gig on Fiverr for a 30-second gig. Obviously if people want a voice over for 10 minutes they will pay for 20 gigs and so on. You can also upsell to your clients.

You can also respond to ads on Elance and oDesk which have ads for vice overs from time to time.
