Optin email campaigns - what companies are good?

Hello,

I want to send out a targeted email campaign to, let's say, consumers who opted in to receive emails about new gadgets or phones or new products. I do not have my own list. I need a reliable service that can provide these services. So I am asking for any referrals from those of you that have used services such as these.

I tried one service specifically for a large campaign. And, I do not know what happened, but the open rate was decent (around 24%), but the CTR was horrible. I.e. sent out 1.3 million emails, 315,399 opened as of now, 18 total click throughs. 18 not 18%, 18 as in 15, 16, 17, 18. Ad was professionally written, signup link isn't convoluted and asks for the minimum amount of information needed.

Plus, I was tracking the campaign through the campaign statistics tracker they offer and, I don't know, it seemed a little suspect. For instance, when I started keeping tabs I would refresh every minute and another 780-790 emails would have been sent, roughly 20%-30% of the 780 of 790 showed as "being opened". But in the first two hours of the campaign it said they served over 800,000 emails and had roughly a 27% open rate. It slowed down after I started refreshing every minute.

So...I just don't feel real comfortable with them and am looking for referrals to companies that provided successful campaigns to any Warriors. Any advice would be extremely appreciated.

Thanks!

Email marketing is all about the credibility and trust you have with your subscribers who have opted in to be on your list because you're the person they want to hear from.

Without that, as you've seen, you get 18 clicks and no money at all from 1.3 Million emails. That's very typical of what happens when you send out bulk email to people who've never heard of you.

You have no relationship with those people, so they're not often going to buy on the strength of your recommendation. It really is as simple as that.

The day you decide to change that might be the day you start earning something from email marketing. Without that, the only people earning anything worth talking about from email marketing are the people selling lists and providing services to all the beginning marketers who are losing money because they haven't yet decided to start building their own list.

The email is actually for my own product that is being launched this week. We are a new company, thus have not had the time to establish any "customer"/email list. That is why we are having to go the blast route. The first blast was actually for affiliate recruitment. This second blast will be specifically to sell the product.

All that being said, yes we are working on SEO and we've also established a relationship with Push44 (which by the way is a fantastic service).

So....based on the situation described above; what would be your recommendations?
