Creating an eBook sales page

Hey, I was selling eBooks on eBay for a couple of years until they disallowed the sale of digital items, so that made me stop selling.

Until now.

I have now decided that I would like to create my own eBook sales website, but I am unaware how to.

What can I use to create sales page websites for eBooks? Simple HTML? Wordpress? Joomla? And how would I go about making one?

Also, does anybody know where I can get free eBook sales page templates?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Basic HTML will do, though I prefer to use PHP because it can make things a little easier if you have more than one page, which you will need, as you'll need a thank you and delivery page at least.

For just a simple sales site, WordPress or Joomla may be overkill.

I don't know of any free template sites. I just create a simple table (or DIVs) and flesh it out. If you have any HTML experience, it's not hard to do.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

    Mike,
A while back I setup an ebook store using a powerful and free open source program called OS Commerce osCommerce, Open Source Online Shop E-Commerce Solutions
since that time I have moved on to creating my own versions using .php But OSCommerce may make you a great starting site.

I have little to almost no experience at all with HTML, so one option for me would be able to pay someone to create a sales site for me. How much would one usually charge (on average)?

You could pay anywhere from maybe $50 to $150 or more.

If you search in Google, there are some applications and perhaps web apps that will help you build a sales page for free. I don't know their quality though.

    Gold Pro,

Keyword search the forum or even google, for the topics your interested in first. You can create a page however you want, that is up to you. Some people use Wordpress, some joomla, some use notepad. This is based on YOUR level of expertise with either html or these products.

There is no one right answer to the questions you asked. I myself use Joomla, Wordpress, hand-build sites, PHPBB, shopping carts, and a host of other stuff depending one the needs of the site.

To get ideas, look at other peoples sales pages. I am sure you have seen them. In some cases you can even CPE the page. (copy/paste/edit). (sometimes referred to as swiping).

While we can give you suggestions on products to use, how to build better designs, the WF is not an HTML for beginners site. You will either have to learn some of this on your own or get someone to help you with it directly. WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editors will eliminate the need for most html, but again depends on what you want to work with.

Free ebooks are all over the net. If you just want some, ala Google search, just grab what you want. You'll get a wide range of junk and occasionally some good ones. But this could take a year alone to get them. You'll never get them all, nor would you want to.

My suggestion to you is to take a deep breath and relax a little first. You're in the right place because you're here at the WF. We will gladly help you with insight, reviews, honest advice and occasional suggestions.

If you do it right, you could have a site up and running this weekend (with software or templates, this afternoon). But to do it right, you have to know what you want to accomplish.

Alright. This could definitely be interesting.

I will do this, for sure.

    GP,

Even a swipe needs to be altered to prevent infringing on any copyrights. You also still need to know how to change pictures, text, and possible use an html editor.

The key is you "still need to know what your doing", before you can just do it.

There are serveral websites available for selling e-books that are already setup for you and they even give you a bunch of free e-books that you can sell.

I ran across a few of these last week doing some research. You may want to do a search for pre-made e-book sites.

    Hope that helps.

Don't forget the entire world or MRR or PLR ebooks.

For the new, Master Resell Rights and Private Label Rights books can be sold and often include sales copy, etc. The PLRS can be modified, edited, changed, renames, rebuild, whatever you want basically, and then sold. MRR books cannot be edited.
