Hi - Great question, I actually researched this before making my decision and the merchants noted below are currently featured in the top 10 of most trustworthy and reliable merchants - of course they all have there own special features that distinguish them from each other.

A little bit of due diligence on your part and I'm sure you'll find the right one for you.

    2Checkout.com
Global Payments, Payroll Services & Money Transfer | Payoneer
    MoneyBookers
    Liberty Reserve
    Google Checkout
    AlertPay

Not confident about Skrill/MoneyBookers - have used them as a client and have been shocked to find some of their limitations. Cancelling membership with Skrill can be a nightmare.

2CO is good but charges a lot extra that you may have to pay or pass on to the client. Again, I have used this to subscribe to services/products as a client but have not accepted payments here till date.

I accept Payoneer payment (being based in India, I am not sure that I can pay via them). They has some charges for accepting payments, but they have been awesome otherwise.

Another option is Clickbank. You'll find a lot of experience shared by a lot of people with it. By the way, they can be used only as a payment platform - you don't need to run an affiliate program with them. They are good but quite expensive, in my opinion.

These are probably the biggest platforms I've used outside Paypal.

By the way, as a merchant, you may want to accept credit cards.

      • The current alternatives are:
        1. Alertpay
        2. Skrill (ex MoneyBookers)
        3. Payoneer
        4. Google Checkout
Some of these services are difficult to use or to manage, others have uncommon laws who keep everything like a nightmare, other doesn't support credit cards, and in every case they are not as much diffused as the big P.

I dream every day an easy payment system to manage electronic payments for IM products, but it will stay a dream for long time... I think.

        See you soon,
        Alessandro

      Hi,

You can use the Payneer card to verify your paypal account, however, whatever restrictions paypal has on your account is up to them and has nothing to do with how you verify their account. The Payoneer card is just like any other prepaid MasterCard.
Please make sure you have funds on the card first, since paypal charges a fee when verifying with a card.
Furthermore, if you are able to receive paypal payments, and would like them on your Payoneer card you can look into our US Payment Service option, which allows you to send money from your paypal account to your Payoneer card.

You could go really old school, and have people send checks/money orders via snail mail, then send their product once the check clears.

That's how we used to do it.

If you were lucky enough to have a merchant account, you could ask for credit card numbers, but you had to have people send the number in multiple emails in case someone was intercepting the packets.

PayPal has its flaws, but it's easy and millions of people trust it.

Moneybookers.com (Skrill) is no good for me. I just filled out their form to sign up and got this error message,

"Due to legal restrictions, we cannot accept registrations from residents of Illinois.

Please accept our apologies for this inconvenience

Geeeez, the search continues. What else is out there for people like me, needing to accept and process credit card payments on my website? (I've checked out all 46 of them in the other thread. I have WePay, but need an alternative)

I've been to the Payoneer site a few times. And I can't really seem to figure out what exactly they do. But I can't seem to find anywhere on there that says they do credit card processing for online stores? For over 10 years, I had the PayPal "buy now" and "add to cart" and "view cart" buttons on my site. THAT'S what I am trying to find.

With Payza, it seems the only way to receive the money is for Payza to put it onto some sort of card ($1.00 fee) they provide to you. Or they send you a check. Or a bank wire ($15.00 fee). Ridiculous.

Just as well I was searching for Paypal alternatives when they frozen my account. They call it limited - but in reality it is frozen.

These are the ones that I've come across that enable multinational, buys, sell, receive and send money the easiest.

    Neteller.com
    Payoneer.com
    payza.com (alertpay.com)
    Amazons Webpay
    Paymate.com.au (Aussies only - me).
    Dwolla
    Wepay.com
    MoneyBrokers.com
    escrow.com
    2checkout.com

    My favs in order:

    Payza.com
    Payoneer.com
    Neteller.com
    Paymate.com.au
Paypal.com - yes, even though they can be difficult but there is a reason for everything.

    Cheers!

I've used SWReg and they've been fantastic. They're comfortable with IM products (and the refund/chargeback rate that goes along with it). On the down side, they hold on to a relatively high reserve for quite some time to cover those refunds/chargebacks, but they have a great system, there's no upfront cost or ongoing costs... just a transaction fee (which is high, but not unreasonable given the fact that you're not needing your own merchant accounts and IM is considered high risk). On the upside, you don't have to have an account to pay through them... you can accept paypal payments in addition to ALL major credit cards in ANY currency, they're reliable, reputable, have been in business a long time, and you know you're going to get your money. It's easy to set up and integrate with your website... you add a buy now button just like you would with paypal, and one really nice thing is that the order page is completely customizable so you can actually brand it and have control over what customers see when they check out. If you're looking for an alternative to paypal... this is it. There are plenty of "wallet" systems out there, but the only one that won't hurt conversions is of course paypal since pretty much everyone already has a paypal account... and they also don't require someone to have a paypal account in order to pay. If you can't or don't want to use paypal, look at SWReg. There's no shortage of options, but in my opinion... knowing that a processor won't panic when they see refunds and chargebacks, and that they are IM friendly is HUGE. You don't want your account suddenly terminated and your funds frozen. Just let them know what you're doing when you set up, and you're fine with SWReg.

There is no alternative to Paypal as such.

Paypal has built up a reputation over many years and is now trusted by millions of consumers worldwide. No other payment processor will be able to replicate that overnight.

Paypal is and will continue to be the most trusted online payment processor for some time.
