I just wanted to show the progress of my site.

I still need to work on the header and menu tabs. Other then that the home page is done.

What do you think of it?

Still trying to find a code for hover over pictures as a link.
If you know, could you please let me know.

I see that you have an opt in form on the TOP of your site and this is a good idea to capture people's emails and names to follow up with. This is a great decision that you made. Overall, I only think that you should make your header graphic a little smaller then it is right now.

    Nice job.

First of all, that auto playing video that visitors can't control, really sucks.

The images and text on the left sidebar need some padding as they run together. You might also reconsider the font used with them.

You're making great progress because you're actually taking action. You're doing good by focusing your attention on building a list. Now you have to work on SEO and begin getting some traffic to your site

Yes...I would never use autoplay on my website...some folks may be at work...

There is a "you" in the second paragraph...wondering if you meant your?

Site lines up on the left in my browser...seemed a little odd. I'm so used to sites being centered.

If this is your first site...congrats.

Trial and error are the best ways to learn.

That enormous image of earth is BEGGGING FOR A HEADLINE ON IT!!!

That's the first thing your visitors see. I would definitely put a catchy headline that speaks to your readers and gets them to read the rest of the page.

There needs to be an anchor that pulls your viewers and stops them from whatever they're doing. The headline could do that.

You may want to try and experiment on various other fonts for links to the pages of your site. Like someone pointed out, the header is a bit huge, it could be statistically placed in such a way that i could see a glimpse of other parts of your website on the same page without having to scroll down.

Page looks good but the pic of the earth is kind of big. You can lower the height by a couple hundred px or put a headline on it like Webalfie suggested.

For hovering pic link you are going to need to use css hover. You will also need to take the pic you want as a link and copy it to an editor like paint and then put a semitransparent color over it like lets say a red tint, save it and then make a new pic which has the normal pic directly over the red tint pic. Now with some css code it will show the normal pic (the top one) always until someone puts a cursor on it then it will show the red tint pic (the bottom one).

I know this isn't complete instructions but I thought I would at least point you in the right direction.

For the css coding type css hover into youtube and watch a tutorial or 2 on how to make it work.

    Here are my thoughts:

Some pages are centered, home page is not.

The Youtube video appears to be out of place.

The padding for the text/images on the left is jacked up. Needs more.

Make the contact us a form, not a mailto: When people click on it, it forces them to open their email program on their computer. If they don't use it, you can forget them contacting you.

Overall, I would suggest using another template. The site to me looks like it's stuck in 1995 unfortunately.

To be completely honest, if I came across this site while looking for "alternative energy" related things, I would move on to the next.

Lose the graphic header of Earth, and get straight to business. Put up a REALLY good headline and tell people (with bullet points) why they should subscribe to your email newsletter and download your free ebok. Lose the video also. I have no idea what you want me to do when i visit your site.

I think the site would look better centered on the background, but on my browser, the page is setting left.

        Hello Adsassist

I commented on your site a little earlier today...and I've been thinking about you today.

I've seen comments come through my email telling me that others are commenting too...so I've just been following along...

I think you are new at this web design thing...reason for the review right?

So with that assumption on my part it occurred to me that some of the suggestions for graphic changes may be a HUGE learning curve for you...

So I wanted to drop back in here and ask you why you aren't using Wordpress for the content management of your new site?

With Wordpress all the design is done for you by way of a template...nice templates can be found with a Google Search...

Wordpress is not just a blog...

If you want to use it as a website...just build pages...

          I have a website with Wordpress. www.elite-custom-cars.com

The problem I have with it is its a cookie cutter. Its complicated to change the little things for the template. Then finding all the plug ins you need. I still dont know how to see the code for wordpress.

Im waiting for an update to a website that will have step by step for wordpress.

Maybe I just don't know enough about it.

It is a cookie cutter. Its just a template/theme I found. I installed it and thats what I got. Installed the plug in for the slide show (thats not working for some reason) and that was it.

If you go through the site you will see a few odd balls. Thats me trying to change things around. Its seems wordpress is not customizable friendly.

Ill get back to you on the name of that template. I have had many people tell me they love the look of it. Its in wordpress for free templates.

sdassist, I'd be happy to point you in the right direction regarding wordpress. As far as cookie-cutter goes, you just have the right theme that's flexible, or find someone (such as myself) who can build a theme from a PSD. If you're good with CSS, you can usually get a theme to look the way you want without having to touch any of the code.

search for "wordpress template heirarchy" to see the files used for each piece of the template and what it does. Appearance>edit will let you edit most of the files, but some of the theme files may not be visible there if they're in subfolders. Also, if you mess up any of the php there - particularly the functions.php, you won't be able to get back into the wp admin panel, so I recommend downloading each file you want to edit via ftp and editing with notepad++ - you get syntax formatting that way.

I'm actually working on a comprehensive wordpress guide

Looks a lot better now that it's centered. One more thing you can do now is make the background color darker. Not the background of your content area but the white background on the sides, in css it will be the body background color. Find a color that is a little lighter than the black background of your content area so that you can see a little difference but there wont be a big color clash like there is now.
