Don't know how to get visitors to my new website

Hi all I have this website automaticdrivinglesson.co.uk I just recently created this website, its for driving lessons in london. I'm new to all this SEO, social media and links stuff. I have recently got another site to link to mine but I cant see my self on google anywhere. I have added relevant key words to the site.

But my questions are:
1. What do I do to get people to visit my website? I need people from a specific part of london to look at it, people who just want driving lessons is that even possible?
2. should I use facebook? if so how do I get people to be my friends, my site is offering driving lessons. why would they add me as a friend if I'm a business?

sorry if all this sounds stupid, but its quite a lot to take in. not sure where to start.

Thanks for any suggestions.

kossy.

    1. Try to create a blog or a tutorial on your specific field.
    2. Use facebook fan page to like your page then invite them to like your page.

Ahh i like that lol. Not sure if its targeted enough tho lol.

@Steve Crooks, Thanks for the suggestions, I tried flyers I nearly got in trouble for putting my flyers on a lamp post lol. I have actually asked a few driving instructors about linking to my site not many of them want to, its very competitive, they want students all to them selves. Only one other instructor has linked their website to me so I also linked back. And budget wise I cant afford the window adverts on shop windows

Any other suggestions for local targeted advertising would be well appreciated.
          Thanks.

How about local colleges and universities.. There would be a good demographic of people looking for driving lessons there. If you have any budget for advertising then some targeted Adwords ads for some very tight keywords could pull in a few visitors. You should also try and think of ways of making your content shareable through the social networks.

Maybe consider a small report on "10 tips for passing a driving test in London" and then offering it as a giveaway on your site in exchange for an optin using facebook and or Twitter as their contact details. Use that giveaway as the focus of your promotional activities. The point is that you are trying to make your content go viral. At least go viral in a local context.. I hope that helps a bit.

I like it, really useful advice! I will definitely need to try that. I like the 10 tips idea, will try the local colleges/ uni's too, Adwords I've got a bit of saving up to do before I can do that, unless u know of place to get free Adwords vouchers lol. helped a lot thanks.

As you are targeting a very localized part of London as opposed to a global audience then you should be looking at local advertising.
      1. Local mailshots
      2. Speak with local driving schools and see if they would be interested in promoting your website with flyers etc..
      3. Advertising on lamp posts, telephone boxes etc..
      4. Advertise in local shops and supermarkets in the classifieds
      5. Look at the classifieds in the free local papers

Well I would look online but then its the whole thing of I can't see my website online yet lol. I really need to get my website on page 1 if I type in "driving lessons London" in Google. But I'm no where near there yet lol.

I think online is the best way but it's the whole thing of me still not knowing how to approach people of Facebook and twitter and all the marketing stuff yet, convincing them to take a look at my site.

Also remember to index your website with google.

And Make the specific location of London that you wanna target your keyword. If I am looking for lessons in that part for London, I'll definately type that in the search engine so it'll be useful for you to rank for that keyword to draw targeted traffic.

Use long tail keywords relating to your local business such as cheap driving lessons camden or something similar. Target local customers with keyword phrases that you would expect them to use. Promote your site on social media such as twitter and facebook. Submit a press release with a hook such as 30% off for 18-25 years olds. You really need to get your message out there. Article writing and submission can help too, with the same long tail localised keywords.

I've visited your website, Kossy and it is very professional. What you really need is a traffic for your website. Simply said, you want to teach people how to drive, but the problem is no one knows the 'road' to your website, or more commonly known as traffic. Perhaps this would help you to get the targeted clients that you need.

I think you can get visitor, I mean a lot of visitor, But you have to be sure they are targeted visitors and making sales. So first write interesting articles to describe about your product or services and make a blog section to interact with your visitors.

Believe me, I have a blog, where I write articles about cloths, I wrote several article and placed affiliate banners. I am getting targeted visitors without any effort. I am getting visitor from Google

That is why I am asking you to write articles first then try to use other promotional services. One thing I forgot to mention here that I am getting repeated visitor as well

    Hope this helps

Thanks, yes I think a blog is a great idea, I can add additional information that pupils will find beneficial, its not just for me to make a living through driving lessons. I want to teach my pupils the value of driving and make sure when they pass their test and leave me to drive independently, they will be able to drive in confidence and above all drive safely by themselves.
It takes a lot of time to nurture my students to drive well, I feel responsible for them, I want to know they will be able to drive safely by them selves and keep safe. Excellent idea about the blog, will need to add that! Thanks

      @Karen Connell
Yeap I am in the process of adding the Google places thing. Its the map right? I'm having to wait for the post card to come through my door so I can activate the account. Excellent suggestion though, thank you.

@keebeng90 Thanks I will also look into that, money is a bit of an issue still, so any other free suggestions for gaining targeted traffic will be very welcome.

@IPexpress yes thanks for the suggestion I will add some longtail key words in my site and see how it goes

@Didoz Umm I don't really want to clutter the site up with ad-sense, I need the site to be as simple and as easy to use for my future students/ current students. Maybe do a blog like wordpressmania suggested and ad the Adwords there?

Thank you all for the great suggestions and advice. there's still lots to take in, hopefully it will all sink into my brain lol. any more ideas are greatly appreciated.

Many things you can do. Certainly mix the offline and the online by joining every or the main or as many as you can afford local business chamber (here in the U.S. called Chambers of Commerce). Facebook ads would be great, but if money's an issue, go with Twitter.
      1) Sign up for Twitter - as yourSELF, not as your company.
      2) User your own photo, and put your title (CEO or whatever of Automatic etc) in your bio. Put a link to your site in your bio - there's a place when you're editing your Twitter bio to put a link.
      3) Check out this article to help you connect with local people. How to Use Twitter for Local Business
      4) Find and Follow as many local news and media outlet people - reporters, etc. - as you can. You'll be amazed at the personal connections you can make, some of which can get you local press as they get to know you as an expert businessman. They may even turn to you for quotes about things - like "traffic during the Olympics"!
      5) DON'T just tweet about driving. DO tweet a link to your 10 tips giveaway that Steve Crooks smartly suggested, and other driving-related stuff, but LESS frequently than you tweet personal stuff that interests you (Olympics, anyone? Have fun. Shouldn't there be an Olympic DRIVING sport? Even bumper-cars? That can be a tweet.)
      6) But your tweets will fall on deaf ears unless you have Followers. Best way to get them? Follow people yourself. Many will follow you back. Then actually engage with them. (and see #3).
      7) Use that passion about teaching people you conveyed in your posts. (Maybe even in your Twitter bio, a la "CEO passionate about teaching (kids?) long-lasting safe-driving habits!"
      8) Start and hold a regularly-scheduled "tweet-chat" - I'd suggest something automobile related, but more sexy than driving school - like Le Mans racing or something. A tweet-chat is just a schedule time during which people of like-mind tweet using a hashtag (#), like #LeMans and share their ideas or opinions on a topic within the topic, like "who's your favorite LeMans driver of all time?" (I don't know anything about LeMans, just using that as an example.) There are tweet-chats about EVERYthing - and repeat steps 3 and 4 for the topic rather than the locale.

With a bit of effort put into Finding and Following people, then the "effort" of actually having conversations, you'll find a lot of visitors coming to your site from Twitter! Good luck!

Kossy - have sent you another PM anyway, but just looking again at your website and putting myself in a position of considering booking you, then my immediate concern would be that you have no location credibility. You could be any fly by night operator since there is no information about the instructor/s, no business address, and the number you give out is a mobile one.

I would invest in a London fixed line number that you can divert to your mobile anyway.
By providing local address/number and other data, then it's possible that even though you won't come up on a highly competitive search term like 'driving lessons in london' on natural search, you may be able to configure your google + local page so that you come up high on this. You need to make sure that your address and other local data is correctly configured (your rich snippets).

I'd also put a lead capture form on your front page (with a give-away) that has someone's mobile number as well as an email. It means that when you are on the road, you can get an SMS sent directly to your own mobile that someone is keen to talk with you - you can then phone them on the go.

If you want to get visitors to your new website, you can try to do the following:

    a. Content should be great
    b. Use Favicon.ico
    c. Include Meta tags on your website
    d. Submit your site to as many Link directories
    e. Use Social networking sites, of course

Since it's about Driving Lessons in London I'd def set up a FB fan page. Send out an invite to all your own friends and ask them to share it with theirs etc. etc.

This should get you a couple of hundred likes. After you could look into buying FB ads and build the fan page that way. Have a lot of good content on your main website and divert the FB traffic to it that way.

That's just one method, try get 3-4 that work and do them on a consistent basis and you will see your traffic grow.

Apart from the social media websites, you can publish your ad in craigslist, if you are a premium member you can even have some additional benefits.

Also you can use the Google places feature (its free) wherein you can get people to see your website in your targeted area. There are videos on how you can setup your Google places, just search for the video on youtube.

not sure what the minimum driving age is in the UK, kids can get their L plates at 16 here in Australia, and I have noticed a few driving school ads on the back page of the weekly school newsletter. I have a daughter who is on her L's and I rang one of these ads to get her a couple of lessons.

The SEO benefits of a link from a forum are fairly minimal. The main benefit of a signature link is that you are promoting your site to a like minded audience. There may be a handful of people on here that are both from London and learning to drive.

You would do better to look at where your demographic hang out online. Are there relevant forums for London learner drivers that allow signature links?

Also, while on the subject, you should ask yourself whether a website concentrating on a small demographic is the way ahead? Why not open your website up to the whole of the UK? It would improve your chances of finding visitors.. Think, "How to Pass a Driving Test in the UK".. It is a good idea to narrow down to London if you are offering a local service but driving test tips can apply to the whole of the UK. Just my thoughts..

*EDIT* Just checked your website, it is a local service you offer.. My bad.

Really excellent suggestions you have given me. Thank you.

Facebook IS great, but just creating a Fan Page will be more trouble than it's worth. Because you're right, now you have to focus on getting Fans (not Friends), which is basically the same problem as trying to get visitors to your website in the first place. So now you'd have TWO web presences tow worry about. That doesn't mean it couldn't be useful...

...Because Facebook has two great things going for it: a huge user base, and the ability to micro-target ads. So IF you were to create a Page (a business page that gets "Liked" not a personal profile that gets Friends) AND you had funds for advertising, Facebook could be your best bet! For example, I did a quick check, and you could advertise ONLY to people in Hackney who say that they have children aged 16 - 19. According to Facebook today, that's over 237,000 people that your ad could potentially be seen by. Add in other cities - or boroughs or whatever you call them over there lol - and you're reaching even more people. And better yet, you only pay IF someone clicks on your ad. So, on the one hand you're getting good exposure even if nobody clicks (meaning brand awareness), and if your ad is good then every click is almost a pre-qualified lead.

Still, from what you've said, I wouldn't go that route unless you outsourced that whole deal or felt like getting up to speed on the whole process yourself.

Hope that helps. (By the way, I love the humor in trying to get "traffic" to an auto driving school. Traffic...driving...lol)

Sorry if this sounds stupid. But I tried adding people as friends but they haven't even replied back yet or added me as a friend.
I'm not sure what i am doing wrong.

An example of a message I could use to send them would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Submit your site to as many search engines as you can and social networking sites to spread the name of your website and what can it do. It may not be that easy since you are just starting but soon you will be successful since you know your target market.

    Hello,
If your website is only about a local business for particular area or city then you don't need SEO that much. Normal on-site SEO would be enough. All you need is some offline promotion. Make your website visually good and then promote it in your area using old school methods like flyers and posters. You can also do some business cards. You can partner up with local stores (car show rooms maybe) and ask them to recommend your service to their customers. In return you can do the same. There are hundreds of methods to go about it.

And finally you can pay Google adwords a very low amount for every visitor that searches your keyword e.g driving school in London XXX.

Don't focus too much on SEO as your business is local. Do what I said and you will succeed.
    Thanks
    Ahmar.

I have been to London and I know how important this would be for all of the drivers over there ; ) Videos work great. I can't imagine that PPC would be very expensive for this keyword. Articles and Press releases would work well.

When people get to see you and will like your services then you will have a chance to get them as one of clients. I'll suggest you do local listing/business listing Koss and work on your keywords too. For example "London driving lesson". From that local people can really see you.

    2. should I use facebook? if so how do I get people to be my friends, my site is offering driving lessons. why would they add me as a friend if I'm a business?
If you have friends and they're kind enough, ask them to share your page on their walls so that their other friends can see your business/service.

I recommend optimizing your site for local ranking in your city. There are plenty of free & low cost SEO guides to get you started. There are tons of other ways to get found that are mentioned in this thread but I do recommend getting ranked in Google Local search.

The first place people tend to go when doing some research is Google. So be sure you are the on the first page & better yet with a bubble on the map. So be sure to add a Google Places listing too.

I recently have been doing local ranking for some new sites mainly using on-page & off-page SEO & I can typically get these sites ranked in 4 - 6 weeks without pushing too hard.
