Why Might This Be The Case With Some Affiliate Tracking Urls?

They work fine if you click on them but if you enter them into the address bar they don't work and you often end up at your default search page which tells you the url can't be found. There have been several affiliate urls that I have tried to forward domains to only to have them magically not work but yet the url is fine when you click on it via a banner or text link. I just can't understand why it wouldn't always work regardless of whether you entered it into the address bar or clicked on it.

Hmmm... possible logical explanation is that the links are redirect links (they usually are) and they're set to detect a referrer or a 'click' before taking one to end destination. Navigating to a page via the address bar doesn't pass a referrer.
