Howdy, So I'm at a bit of an impasse, I've been writing both my free giveaway to start my list and my first product. The free giveaway is just about ready to go up, but looking at my analytics, I'm disgusted. I didn't think my site was all that bad, and I thought I at least had SOME good content on there so far. But my bounce rate is so atrociously high I have no idea whether I should hold off on releasing my product for fear of losing a lot of potential customers. Aside from completely redesigning the site, I have no idea how to even approach this ridiculous bounce rate, nor do I understand why it's so high. (bounce rate of ~70% and an avg. of 2 pages/visit) I don't have crazy obnoxious colors or pictures (so I thought) and as I said I don't know if I should even put my product up because of it. So what would you do? Would you redesign your site and make the stats better before putting out your product? or would you just put it out and see what happens from there? |

Yeah I would redesign the site but I would also still put the product out to 1) Build a list and to 2) Make some current cash to perhaps pay a professional to redesign the site

I would work on redesigning the site, but releasing the product shouldn't do any harm. Not only will you (hopefully) get a few sales, you can even get some statistics to work off of when you release the new design.

A high bounce rate is usually due to lackluster page 1 content (in the eyes of viewers anyway) or untargeted traffic. If the problem site is the one in your sig, you need to work on your editing. I would dumb it down quite a bit. For instance, your headline of "Strategic Internet Marketing On the New Web" would do better if it was "Make millions the lazy way on the new web." The more professional you are in the bizop industry, the less money you make. |

I would choose a niche outwith internet marketing. I thing the site looks like every other cookie cutter internet marketing site out there. Most IM sites these days are so popular because they have a person behind the site. I'm not saying this to be an a/hole. I just think with all the millions of other IM sites out there I can't see people reading this one, and even less so buying products. You look like you put out some nice articles and it seems a waste. And you should think about getting rid off that calendar and archives. |

I thought the content was the issue at first too, but when bounces are happening after 1 second, there isn't even any time to see the content! So I'm pretty sure it's the design. I've been looking up other themes (instead of sticking to the free ones) but it seems like all of them make use of crazy graphics which, while nice, I don't have the resources for :/ |

And the point of the website isn't so much about IM in general, in the end I'm gearing it towards small/medium businesses who haven't developed their strategy yet. (they've just paid someone to throw up a website and that's it.) so it's not really IM in the sense that most of us talk about it here on the WF. It's funny, because I currently work at a medium sized firm and have taken over their web strategy, and they love the professionalism and detail that I am putting into their guides and whatnot. I know typically, people say drop the professionalism, but seeing as how I want to work with business owners and develop genuine web strategies and not just employ "IM Tactics" I feel that I have enough of an edge to stand out, once I get the design worked out and have some more time to dedicate to content. |
