Why not?? It's not up to any of us what this guy does! So what if he doesn't know anything about it? This is a great way to learn.

All he needs to succeed in this is get a website where people can register and post...by the way, a great place to start is Drupal

The next thing you would have to do is market the site and promote it. Get your backlinks in and get to the first page of Google...

Why does he have to know anything about creating jobs for people? Drupal can set it up for him, and he can get the backlinks to it.

Don't listen to these guys, go for it! People on here think they are the internet police or something.

I don't know that anyone actually sounded like dream-killers; most of the comments I read were realistic.
To start an endeavor as big as elance/fiver I am pretty sure you need either:
        1. Great skills in a variety of areas or a team that working together has the right marketing, writing, programming, graphics, financial skills. These sites both use a form of escrow -- and elance includes hourly trackers, contracts, etc.
        2. A decent budget to purchase the above OR at least one exceptional skill to barter for the above -- as in -- I'll write you a killer sales letter that converts, you design custom logos, headers, etc that rock -- and we both win..

You absolutely can build a blog, website or other money-making online enterprise without the above, but it simply won't be that huge. I am not tech oriented at all and know enough to produce a decent looking, decent earning site via WP -- if I can learn the basics, anyone can!

In my opinion a huge site that builds trust, attracts sellers AND buyers and handles the money is a very big undertaking to start with, particularly for a entepreneur that doesn't have a sure plan or vision to start.

To the OP, I second (third?) the advice from others to start with one site/plan and grow.

I would start with a simple blog and a Clickbank product.
Totally agree, that understanding and depth research is needed in every start of a great new business.

I suggest to start an adsense site first. then the affiliate marketing. Gather a lot of popularity then go for ecommerce. Then think about outsourcing sites.

lol! Hey, you can't waltz in here and tell someone that they cant do something.

And yes, getting a site to the first page of Google IS simple. All he has to have is a platform that will help him create his website. Drupal is a good place to start. Yes its that simple. You are just complicating it.

I'm getting tired of everyone's negative opinions on what someone else is trying to do.

What does T-bone steak have anything to do with someone wanting to start something new?

I also didn't say that he could "push a button" and out flows the cash...there goes another assumption by someone who thinks they know everything.

All I was saying was he could start there and build his links and eventually he could get it to where he wanted it.

He doesn't have to be a professional at this...there are people that can create the site for him, so there's your T-bone steak. And I still stand behind what i said, people on here(most people anyway) think they are an authority on different things. And they proceed to spout out their opinions on what they think people should do. Its garbage, and not worth anything...You go get a freekin life! lol! And learn to spell while you're at it

Finally...someone who understands what it means to go for something! Who cares about oDesk? If you want to create a site that competes with oDesk then do it!

The reason most people try to discourage you from this is because they either didn't think of it themselves, or they don't want you to succeed, or perhaps they can't imagine something of this caliber!

Do what you want to do...it will take you a little while to get to the first page of Google for these keywords, but if you use different techniques like article marketing, blog commenting, and the like, you will eventually get there.

And I hope no one says this can't be done. I recently knocked a guy out of the #1 position that had been there for years! So it CAN be done.

Why don't you clone a website like fiverr which will be great for you at the moment. There are great free software that clones websites like fiverr whaich is totally legal...

It will be a good starting point. If you what outsourcing sites like Odesk, you will need a powerful programmer behind you and tons of money to run the necessary ads.

You will need about $2,000 - $5,000 if you want something big and worthwhile....

Forgot to add -- I know of at least two members-only writing/freelance forum style communities that charge a monthly fee for talent -- $25-50 a month + decent clips gets you in and the ads are pretty targeted -- as are the folks applying to them. So a "matching workers with jobs" can be done on the cheap -- it's just the comprehensive elance/fiver version that has the big price tag.

Too huge. Start with small online businesses first. Too risky especially you're not an expert with building websites.
