How to get traffic without relying on search engines?

I do get quite a bit of Google traffic these days, I admit - but in all of my niches it's the worst, least-opting-in, least-converting traffic I've ever had.

Twitter
Guest posting
Article marketing
Blog commenting
List building
Videos
Forums

Just to name a few.

You just have to pick some of the ones that best suit your niche, as well that - knowing where your niche is likely to hang out online...

If you use all of the tools aside from Google to get traffic like social media, then chances are Google will eventually take notice and rank you because you're leaving tons of footprints to your domain aka backlinks. Google uses backlinks as popularity unlike Yahoo and Bing. So take your link and put it where people will see it, forget Google for the time being!

Forum marketing is extremely underrated in my opinion.

Driving forum traffic to a squeeze and following up with recurring income products is not stupid.

Yes, it's "manual labor" and you do have to provide value, but when you grow your list and at the same time build recurring income it is well worth it.

A great way to get fast targeted traffic to your site is to do a search for Blogs in your niche that offer advertising and go and buy some impressions.

It's fast and doesn't have the same restrictions that Google imposes. You'll need a little budget to play with, but, if you're looking for fast results then it can be the best way to go.

Yes, this idea will work well. If you cant invest in such method try video marketing and social media marketing that are also effective ways to get traffic.

I guess that the posts above have said it all but I would just use article marketing, Web 2 services, blog commenting in your niche and also forum posts with a sig that points to your site. Oh yea and face book.

We depend heavily on paid advertising.
I can say that we are mostly Involved with:

- Affiliates.
-Low cost Front Ends
-Media Buys such as Banners & email drops.
-unknown ppc sources.
-Give Aways
-Solo Ads

Article marketing. Blog marketing. Twitter and Facebook. Youtube. Starting your own affiliate program. Podcastings. Forums... so many different ways to get traffic online -- you dont have to rely on Google, Yahoo, and Bing.

Squidoo lenses, YouTube videos, Free Classified Ads on Craigslist, Backpage, USFreeAds, OLX, etc. Forum Marketing, Banner Ads on BuySellAds and others, blog commenting, Facebook, Twitter, Myspace even still gets me traffic !

I must admit Search engine can give you massive results but sometime not results that many people want/looking for. You can try social media, Facebook, Twitter for your Followers and Youtube etc
It can give you good results in return

To get more traffic work on the Social Media sites, do a video, blog content and article syndication. Reach out to your target market this way.

This is something I've been doing recently and my biggest push on driving traffic without Google is with my blog.

Ironically my SEO blog about SEO does not use SEO to drive traffic ^^ Instead I'm focusing on creating and publish high quality content and getting involved on forums/social media helping people out as much as possible.

It mirrors the Google Webmaster Guidelines to the letter so let's see what happens if we do what Google wants us to do

An other idea for traffic:
Try to find a live TV site with a comment section and write some comments with your link, if it is possible.
I did it and I've received more than 250 visitors in about 20 min.

I use many methods to get traffic not including Google. I find its becoming more and more difficult to maintain a rank on Google with all the algorythem changes.

If u looking for free traffic...U can opt for social media, forum posting, blog commenting, Youtube Videos, guest blogging if u r an expert in your niche..Else try paid traffic..through PPC or media buys...

What I think YouTube is the best way to get targeted traffic without relying on Google. Because YouTube still allow you to post a url in the video description. That's the best way I bring traffic.

There's many great suggestions in the posts above, but what's worked for me is:
1. Natural SEO by creating good content and letting Google do the rest.
2. PPC - This requires a lot of testing to get right.
3. Solo ads are a good way of getting targeted traffic but you need to be very careful about performing due diligence before buying a solo.
4. Email marketing.

I think forum marketing is massively under-rated. When looking for a niche to go after, I always check for a big forum following first.

Its great for traffic, building a list, and making related sales.

There is a bit of work to be done on the forum, to make your self seen as an expert in the field. But once this is achieved, you have a huge customer base to make your sales with.

I tend to stay within arms-reach of Google nowadays, I prefer to go down more paid ways of advertising. The reason for this is that it gives you fast and targeted traffic IMHO. My favorite methods are:

- PPC
- Facebook Ads
- Banner Ads
- Solo Ads

This may seem a short list, but the amount of traffic you can get from each source is mind blowing... if done correctly.

Rule of thumb ---> Always TEST!

Personally Google algorithms are all other the place and there is no way of determining what site is going to get on top of Google. The best suggestion is to do the normal SEO thing and not be reduced to using spamming methods. Plus i would suggest try to draw more of your audience in with social networking sites.
