I'm in the middle of trying to retrieve data from an external hard drive which died suddenly. Nothing essential business wise, but things like baby photos of my children, and pics of my Dad before he died.

I've purchased another external hard drive, but am also looking at backing up to an online file storage service, just for extra insurance. Does anyone use such a service, and can recommend one?

Thanks

Audrey

Thanks Josh, I've just set up an account there. Fortunately my hubby has managed to get all my files from the dead drive, and they'll be uploaded to Amazon before the day is out.

        I second s3.
With storage being so cheap, I have a backup for my backup, and then use s3 once a quarter or so.

  • Check out Box.net - Online File Storage, Internet File Sharing, Online Storage, Access Documents & Files Anywhere, Backup Data, Send Files, which gives you a free Gigabyte of online storage. I used it for downloads of ebooks for eBay customers, before they went the way of the dodo.

Yea, there are many many options. S3 is what I personally use and I back all my photos up to Flickr as well (you can mark your personal photos as private)..

I use an external drive for weekly data backups and keep the real important stuff sync'd on S3.

(I also use S3 for all static media, such as css files, images, whatever, for my websites.)

adrive.com gives you 50 gb of storage free.

I have an account there but never use it so I wouldn't know how good it its.

A friend of mine is using xdrive.com. I tried it for a few weeks under my friend’s account. My friend’s account is a paid one and with larger disk space to store files. I am happy with it. I am just not sure on their free account. I think they have one.
