Need to copyright my digital product

INTERNET MARKETING

Hi Guys

I am about to release my first trading method but before I do I am hoping I can legally add a copyright to it, so no-one can steal it and resell..

What I have done so far is instead of it being an ebook I have written the system into my website with the files available via my dropbox account, I have then used member software to lock the pages I have written the method on.

I am hoping to find the answer to 2 things

1. Can I stop people from right clicking and copying the page on my wordpress site.

2. Is there a UK site I can register my trading method on, incase people steal it and resell it?

Any help would be great

At the end of the day you can take every legal step to protect your content but people can still copy and give your work away for free. Once you sale your work your customers have your information and they can do anything with it. Its part of business. Its been done with tons of products. Its unfortunate that there are people out there in the world but look at bootleg movies as an example.

Unfortunately, there are people out there that will copy your product regardless of all the protection you may give your product. The good thing is that not everyone is like that. You have to approach this issue as cost of doing business. It is the same case of a store that loses because of people stealing.

You may use watermark of the buyer e-mail id on every pages of the Pdf file. As a result you can find out who actually leak/spread your pdf file.

Check out the Wordpress Plugin CopyRightPro, it will disable right click and text selection for MOST people. It's not bulletproof, but it does slow the bullets down.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I guess ill just have to face facts, its just my method is really good and i would hate it to be stolen and promoted by someone else.

I guess using wordpress I have a record of when I created the page...

Ill try your plug in too MATx I guess it will help a little

If you figure out a full prove method to prevent people from stealing your stuff then it would probably be worth far more than your current product.

  By the way, copyright only protects how you express your ideas, not the ideas themselves. So if someone likes your trading method and describes it in their own words, a copyright will not prevent them from legally doing that.

Say you had a warehouse full of grain. The warehouse is made of 2-inch thick titanium. And that warehouse had an army of guards on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Rats would still find a way in and out.

Same with digital stuff. Do your best to protect it and realize that people who go out of their way to steal are rewarded in kind sooner or later.

IANAL, nor do I live in the UK - but have a bit of knowledge re copyrights. Basically by creating the work you have a copyright - but that will not prevent people from stealing - just ask the record and movie industries.

In the UK check out this site - basically there is no official registration office as there is in the US (US Copyright Office).

Intellectual Property Office - Copyright registers

Registering in the US is just a formality - and not required either. You may wish to investigate getting a patent or registering your trading system as a trade secrete - but those are items best left to discussion with a proper Intellectual Attorney.

As for physically protecting your work - there are plenty of software and systems in place to help with that - each with its on pros and cons. As others have said - no one can prevent theft - but there are steps you can take to mitigate it.

Here's a very useful resource for anyone wanting to understand how US copyrights work:

U.S. Copyright Office

There are no government copyright or patent "police" that will identify infringers and/or enforce your intellectual property rights for you.

There are law firms that have built practices around doing it, but they're not looking for small-entity entrepreneurs - they typically want deeper pockets on both sides of the table.

It's the #1 mistake inventors and product creators make (IMO) is worrying to death about the theft of their idea, searching for a fool-proof way to prevent their imagined future success with it from ever being swiped.

It's a rabbit hole you want to avoid.

All of this is not to say that you should be ignorant of your rights, or cavalier about protecting them. Quite the opposite.

What I'm saying is stay focused on actually CREATING the TANGIBLE VALUE (cash sales revenue) that you're hoping for before worrying too much about LOSING the INTANGIBLE VALUE (loss of imagined future profits from theft).

As a product seller myself, this has always been a major concern. The problem with digital products is that it is extremely easy for anybody to copy and paste your info. My personal recommendation would be to either watermark or have your info in a photo format rather than a text. This will dissuade most from stealing, but obviously not all.

If you are concerned about your product being stolen, be sure to do either one of two things: add a disclaimer on your actual product or somewhere on your sales funnel where you ask readers to make a report to you if they do come across a pirated copy. Another thing is to do a simple Google search on your own product. If you do end up finding one, be sure to warn the webmaster or poster of legal actions unless they take it down.

Your time is better spent providing stellar support to your paying customers and optimizing your business process as well as building out your money matrix than chasi g thieves all around the net... Make sure there's loads of links back to your blog or 2nd tier product in your content and it will benefit you in the end.
