I've been wondering... Is it financially better, to stick to that one niche you have solid knowledge of, or rather invest your time to diversify into multiple topics which sell, but you have no clue about. Both scenarios take a lot of setup time and, since I'm just a beginner, I don't want to have that time wasted. What are your thoughts?

Stick with what you know. It becomes painfully obvious to your readers that you have no idea what you are talking about when you try to be an expert on something you are not a real expert in.

There is a reason that my sites are referenced by sites like slickdeals, fatwallet, woot, etc.

I would focus on one until you have it up and running. Your first site is a learning experience. You don't want to make the same mistakes over and over again setting up too many sites at once. Plus, it's too easy to lose focus and get discouraged if you try to work on too many things in the beginning.

    Hi Duchis,

You don't have to split your decision. You can hit two birds in one stone, so as to say.

While you focus and work on one niche you have solid knowledge of, you can research and study one new niche. Take it one at a time. If my memory serves me correctly, no one earns a diploma overnight. As you learn more than enough about that new niche, go ahead to your next niche.

If you're serious about your business, quality will always outweigh quantity.

The reoccurring customers point is huge. In order to make ongoing, passive income, which in my opinion is the best kind of income, you need people who trust you and will stick with you. If you're just going for quantity, the focus is on selling and not relationship/trust. If you go for quality, you can make a good amount of money with a handful of people who follow what you're doing.

That being said, the ultimate goal is to build up quantity from the quality you provide. This is abstract, but just relate it to whatever you're doing specifically.

If you are very particular about your time, I'd say you choose QUALITY over quantity. Focus on what you know the most, because you will be able to nurture that knowledge and skill and make the most out of it.

Once you are already comfortable enough on allotting spare time to learn new niches, then go for QUANTITY. There's no way you can do both at the same time.

    Good Luck!

I agree that it's better to at least start with what you know best - BUT, be sure you do your research about whether or not it's something people are interesting in buying. Too many people make the mistake of focusing on something they know really well, only to discover that it costs a fortune to find prospective customers (because there are so few of them).

Rather than creating your own content, look for a related affiliate product to promote to gauge the market potential. Is there something on Clickbank you can promote to start building your list to see how viable it is for a business? If so, then start working on your own original content.

Once you've decided that your niche has legs under it (i.e. enough prospects to make you a profit), then start branching out with related products. In other words - sell to your list. If they buy a $7 ebook on how to set up an organic garden, for example, then they'll be interested in gardening-related products and tutorials.

    Best of luck to you!

  • Focus on one first. It would be your foundation on everything else. Lessons learned and techniques you can develop. Once you have full understanding on these, you can do more without any problems..

Quality. Build a business that you can make backend/recurring sales over and over again. Don't jump from site to site... focus your efforts on one simple site.

There's so much junk floating around the internet that quality is a MUST.

The problem is that people never stick to what they are doing because they want results yesterday. Everything is a slow build. You won't get a million people refreshing their screens waiting for your next blog post overnight. It takes a while but at least if you are doing something you love and providing quality content, you can do it with pride while you build. You also won't hate what you're doing so it will be easier.

Quality. customers trust quality products. so if you provide quality products, that means customers trust you. quantity helps, but not in the long run.
and yes, stick to the niche, where you've strong knowledge.

    Hello duchis!!

I think that it is better to be an expert in one field rather than knowing a bit in many fields!! You can start to concentrate on more than 1 field if you of course have dominated your first !! My friend you need to be an expert in one niche in order to show to newcommers that you are the expert !!! When they recognise that you are expert then they will trust you and of course they will follow you !!! In every aspect of our life STRONG PEOPLE are followed by new and weaker people!! Do not forget it

    Good luck,

  • I would say start with what you know and ONLY when you really have made the funds to diversify only then go for more but keep in mind not to ruin what you know best just to do more and more stuff.

So go for both quantity and quality but with the RIGHT plan. First quality and when you can diversify and grow then maybe look for others who are more knowledgable than you in the other areas you would like to get involved and let them do the job for you.

I'd start with the one you know a lot about, but I wouldn't limit myself to one. I don't want all my eggs in one basket. You can research niches you know less about and become knowledgeable enough to promote it.

No offence but most of what you will have read in this thread is regurgitated guru nonsense.

Mathematically, putting equal effort into either will yield the same results. So... it's a toss up.

I think It doesn't matter if you don't have solid knowledge of a niche to succeed, the important is that you feel atraction to that niche, so if you like you'll learn in the way. This would be your main niche, but of course you could try other niches as secondary ones

I agree with a lot of these replies. Stick with what you know. Go deep. Also keep your passion at heart and follow that as well. It's okay to dabble in other things occasionally as you might find a passion in another niche as well, but stay close to your passion.

Apart from sticking with what you know, you should also test the product, services you are selling, if you are finding hard to sell then you may have to alter the way of promotion, structure of your website, prices etc.

If you will ask me i will choose quality. If you will work on something you don't know and try to put things that you are not sure of i'm pretty sure your readers will already see this in the beginning but if you will work on something you already know and you are an expert about the topic you will definitely get what you want to happen just try to be unique.

I am always looking for quality because its constraints are more relevant than quantity.

Quantity is a being for people who opt for a bigger volume of things & neglect quality values....

Both ends are good on their side, that doesnt matters a lot in present scenario !!!

If you have the time and energy to invest, I would say stick with 1 niche you are interested and knowledgeable in, and just dedicate yourself to updating it daily. In the long run, it will pay off much more. If you dont have time to wait, I would say diversify and go for quantity.
