Anybody else use this method for list building ?

An idea occurred to me today (I probably am not the first to think of this) that in order to gain more trust with potential subscribers to my list, that maybe I should initially offer them a small 5 page eBook with no opt-in required.

Inside this short Report / eBook would be a link or 2 to my squeeze page offering a related and more thorough eBook.

What I hope to accomplish with this is 2 goals :

1. To gain trust by offering valuable and interesting info for free without even requiring a name or email address. The idea is that readers of the first report will be more likely to sign up for my list after reading it, in order to get the 2nd ebook.

2. The first Report / eBook although only 5 pages offers a list of important facts along with a very interesting 10 question quiz and at the end they need to click on a link to go to my blog to get the answers (and my link to my squeeze page is at the end of the answer page).

So, I think the report would be somewhat viral as people would share it with friends and family (which I also suggest at the end of the report) to challenge them on how many answers they can get correct.

Anybody else doing something like this and have experience with it ?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

    Hello friend!!

Your idea is awesome but I think it is better to create a squeeze page with 60% converstion rate rather than make your idea comes true ....Of course you can try this but my personal view is that it will be a waste of time! This is just my personal view!! If you could just make 60% converstion to your squeeze page then you do not have to implement other new ideas !!

    Good luck friend,

Your idea is great but the question-and-answer style has been around since forever. So I have doubts if people are still onto things like that. Either way, a 5-page sneak peak to your ebook would create trust.

If you use that as the focus of how people get on your list your conversion rates for opt ins will be low but you will gain a more quality lead who has proved to want content from you. Try to incorporate giving them a free preview by giving them a link on your squeeze that they can open up on another screen. Offer them another gift on your lead capture page so they have the choice of seeing what you have to offer but still having a choice of opting in to your list without having to go through the e-book.

  • if you make the report so that people can rebrand it with their affiliate links then they are going to be more likely to pass it along.
