Does a video only sales page convert better than written?

I recently saw, and purchased, Frank Kern's Mass Control 2.0 in which the "sales page" was just a movie of him describing the product with testimonials, and an "add to cart" button.

In your guys' opinion do you think this will become more and more popular as its already been discussed that "long sales" copy is starting to be replaced by shorter copy?

It does seem more convenient to be able to watch a movie (i.e. commercial) promoting the product rather than a wordy sales page with bolder sub-headlines throughout.

The only downside I see is that SEO benefits would be cut by the fact there is not much wording on the page (but this could be boost by testimonials and possibly related articles via links)

Though benefits I see is the ability to submit your sales video to all the video submission sites for more exposure back to your website.

Has anyone tried just selling products with video (no written copy) and how have you found it for conversions?

Frank's site converts because Frank has a huge list
of loyal followers built through years of diligent effort.
Frank is also extremely skillful at preselling people before
linking them to the video page.

Whether a video or copy converts is a matter of degree
of skill in delivering the message. A well written piece of
copy will out perform a poorly done video... a well delivered
video will out perform poorly written copy.

Personally, I have always been fond of short copy. I understand the argument for long copy, but for me short copy is much more in keeping with my style. As for video, it's a big ... yes. Done well, video has pulling power in my opinion.

i would suggest a combination ... some people like to read and mull over the facts as they read ... while others are more content to listen to watch video ...

i think it will also depend on what you are selling ...

certainly video is an important part of the mix though

I'm going to break from the crowd and say no, or at least I hope not. If video is the future of sales copy, that leaves a lot of people out of the entire sales process. Keep in mind some of us still live in areas where we're stuck with dialup. Waiting half an hour for a video to buffer before it starts playing sure doesn't entice me to buy.
