Another beginners post, need advice.

Hey guys. My first post here on the forum and what a great forum it is I may add. Some great info! I have been around here for quite a while and have been reading through so much it's actually starting to make my head spin! All good though as I want to get my head around some of the ideas and 'methods' you guys talk about.

I have started a couple of websites recently and am looking to build them up. Yes I have read previous posts about how to gain traffic etc, but that's not what I am after. I am after overall advice on how my sites are looking and also what I would need to do to them to make it possible for future earnings.

I realise it takes A LOT of hard work, time and sweat to start earning through IM, and I am prepared to do it, but I just need some advice to get me started, to get the ball rolling.

A little about myself, I am a professional lecturer with 4 years experience in the Games Development field and I do like my job, beats teaching maths right?! But I have a passion, inner desire to be successful online.

I have a couple of ideas for my websites, but I'm not sure about posting them out in the open. I know this is a lot to ask for a newbie on the forum, but would it be possible if anyone experienced IM who has 'made it' to PM me as I would rather discuss 'SPECIFIC' idea talk there.

What I can say is that I have previously offered a service on fiverr which was if I remember the only one on there offering it. In the short time it was up, did well but I felt $5 for what I was offering was WAY to cheap, and the effort required was too much for such a small payoff, so I am thinking to start a website themed around that service with other services on the side.

I have also researched some long tailed keywords in the areas I want to set up my website and on one of them the competition is low with overall global searches of 550,000 and local of around 35,000. With other more specific keywords at around 10,000 global searches.

Sorry if this message is jumbled and hard to understand, I just wrote as I thought. Hopefully I don't get any stick from you guys, but I am just wanting to learn and get some help

  • ok here you go....

Your do lectures. That is awesome.

If you want to make money online I recommend building your list, and creating your own products.

Get your traffic from affiliates who promote so the can get a cut of the sale.

It also wouldn't hurt to get a mentor. Your going to want to build some personal contacts so start networking. I think Skype works best for that.

And give.... When you give you get. Got it? Good!

      Thanks for the response!

Ahh, ok, so I need to build a list by getting people to subscribe to get a free product. Are there any free tools to add a subscribe form on a webpage to start building the list? I could use it on one of my sites but my funds are limited at the moment. Also would you recommend paying the $50 to sign up as a vendor on clickbank then? As you said so affiliates can sell my product.

I already have an online course on games development which is through another site using video tutorials. I charge around $5-$10 for subscribers. Would it be best to host the course on my own site that way I could create a product out of the course and promote it on clickbank to get affiliates?

Again just trying to get my head around all of this.

Ok...I know how you feel. I've been attempting to make money on-line for years. Got scammed, lost lots of money, gave up, came back etc. Now I'm starting to make a tiny bit of money on line and from a most unlikely source. So the strategy I am following after a load of trial and error, is FIRST to see some results: that it is actually possible to make money on-line. Which can grow for a small amount of initial outlay, and small amount of time to keep it going. And SECOND, all the while I have been building my own product with the hope that as I get a bit more successful at this unorthodox method, it will give me the knowledge and free time to focus on my own product.
I'm not sure if I should tell you what the "unorthodox method" is here in this post. Because I don't want you (or others to think - oh just another guy trying to get me to sign up on his affiliate link) But if you want to know, I can happily tell you about it, if that is a strategy you think you'd like to follow.
    Good Luck.
