Creating broader search criteria in a new web site.

New to the forum and wanted to discuss search criteria.
We launched our new site in February which was getting no traction. After doing a lot of reading, some of it here, I realized that it appears Google puts a very high emphasis on the page title along with other factors of course. After reworking all the content on my pages I'm now getting some good traction on the site and getting on page 1 routinely based on what I would expect to be the common search words for our product.
The problem is though that Google is putting a lot of emphasis on my page titles and if someone does a search using different wording, we simply do not show up even though the different wording is in the content and keyword areas.
Can any one help explain how I can capture a broader search that's not just based on page titles?
