1440 Posts Across 15 Months - My Thoughts
OK Boys & Girls...get ready for a ride and let's see what I can teach you here tonight. This is post 1441, and it comes only 40 something days after I made post 1000.
After spending 15 months reading posts and threads and whatnot here on the Warrior Forum and the last 4 months posting a hell of a lot of posts, I've picked up on a few things. Let me share them with you:
Lesson 1: Take Action
90% of the people here are stuck on things that will ultimately not matter. Should I buy a .com or .co or .co.uk? Should I use blue or pink or chartreuse as my background color? Please guys I really need your opinions on the color of my socks! I'm not trying to belittle those people (well, maybe just a little) because I was there at one point myself. In the end none of those questions matter as there is only 1 question anyone will ask:
If you never actually take the action to get the product in front of people, nothing else you did in preparation will matter at all because you just wasted your time and/or money.
Take action boys & girls. Buy a damned domain and hosting already. Write your articles or hire someone to write them for you. If you can't design a book cover, buy some Crayons and paper, get your kid/niece/nephew to draw one, and scan it and use that as a book cover. Sign up for AWeber or GetResponse today! (But if you spam me I will hunt you down!)
Don't worry about which WP theme is the boost. Twenty Ten & Twenty Eleven come pre-installed for a reason. Take a minute and play with them and you'll see how powerful they are. If you really want to pay for a theme, come to my personal blog and click my affiliate link for Elegant Themes.
Don't try to decipher the mysteries of Joomla versus WordPress's simplicity or worry about finding 5 bajillion alternatives to Fiverr and PayPal. They're the biggest because people use them. Take a second and think about that! If millions of people use Fiverr and PayPal, why would you want to be anywhere else? Starbucks puts its stores where they traffic is, not out in the middle of the desert with the gila monsters.
Lesson 2: Forget About the List
Every parrot and sheep in this forum will tell you to build a list.
Guess what?
I don't have one and I still make money. Well, that's a lie. I have a list. It has 12 people on it. It's never made a penny for me, but it gives me a reason to spend $20 on AWeber every single month. I like sending out a message to my hundreds of Twitter (@jarycu) followers and 12 subscribers and watching my blog's stats jump once a month. It makes my tummy feel warm.
If you don't understand how to build a list and properly use it, don't get hung up on it. Go build your idea, make some money, and then hire someone who's good at building lists to help you modify things. Don't let it stop you from doing whatever it is you do, though. DO IT DO IT DO IT NOW!!!
Lesson 3: Nothing Is Dead
SEO is not dead. Facebook is not dead (although its stock is headed that way). Article Syndication is not dead. ____ is not dead.
Whatever smart@$$ed trolls come on every day or two and post about the death of something, quit taking the bait and believing them. If you do, you know what will really be dead? Your bank account. You know why? Because you'll be cutting yourself off from an avenue of making money when you believe those people.
Lesson 4: Get Off the Forum Now!
This brings me to my final point. It's nearing midnight (about 20 minutes from now), and I've promised myself I'm putting on my coat and leaving the forum tonight at midnight, so I need to wrap this post up.
Every word you type on this forum or any other forum is one less word that you never typed in your own business. Every snarky comment (and yes, I've made quite a few!), every piece of advice, every anything you type here will help the WF's mission, but it won't help you.
I'll close with my favorite quote I've ever read:
